IAESTE F.Y.R. Macedonia :
10th Anniversary Celebrations
IAESTE Macedonia was accepted as a full
member at the IAESTE General Conference held
in Mexico City in 1994.
In 1996 on the initiative of the University of
Bitola a new local committee was formed in
Bitola.
Today IAESTE Macedonia is comprised of two
local committees one in Skopje, at the
University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” and one
in Bitola, at the University of “Ss. Kliment
Ohridski”.
IAESTE Macedonia is a student-run committee
with over 80 active members and more in the
KIP - Club of IAESTE Friends, alumni network.
The National Committee is made up of the
National Secretary and people responsible for
finance, marketing and outgoing and incoming
students. This structure is also followed in the
local committee boards.
Throughout these years IAESTE Macedonia has
organised a lot of international events that
animate the international spirit and have
resulted in successful co-operation. We’ll
mention the TWIN meeting with LC Zurich, LC
Tampere, IAESTE Austria, and LC Trondheim...
In 1998 an International seminar for training
and motivation JUMP ’98 was held in
September in Ohrid. At the time it was
definitely the biggest event ever organised by
IAESTE Macedonia, with around 40
participants from all corners of the world.
In 2003 IAESTE Macedonia was the host of
the 18th Seminar on IAESTE Development
held in Skopje. 57 representatives
participated in the seminar from 17 IAESTE
committees. This was a great honour for
IAESTE Macedonia.
As well as its activities in the International
Association, IAESTE Macedonia aims to bring
news and quality of international education
close to the Macedonian students, aware that
IAESTE as an idea is the bridge that connects
education with the world of work.
Learning from the international experience
about the usefulness of seminars, in May
1997 IAESTE Macedonia held its first seminar
for the training, motivation and education of
new members, a wonderful tradition that is
being kept by our National Committee.
IAESTE Macedonia is also active in debates
and programmes regarding the education
system in Macedonia and its youth policy.
Above all the exchange process is the main
concern of our committee. Starting with only
5 traineeships, our numbers have multiplied
in the past few years. The average number of
traineeships per year is 60 with a duration of
6 - 8 weeks. Most of our placements come
from companies and a few from universities.
As we realise that we remain an unknown
country for the rest of the world we focus our
activities in organising an unforgettable
Summer Reception. Our members take full
care of the exchange students - reception on
their arrival, introducing them to their
employers, planning weekend tours, all in all
presenting the life of their Macedonian
colleagues, our country and tradition.
Investing in the quality of traineeships, well
organised fun during the Summer Reception
programme and educational seminars remain
our goals since we all carry a suitcase with
unforgettable memories of a traineeship,
seminar and conference that enriched our
lives, from an experience called IAESTE.
