Summer 2004
Three Peaks Race : 25 April 2004
English Championship (2)
This was the 50th running of the event, with a very large entry. The first hot day of the
year brought the inevitable problems. The long stretch to Ribblehead seemed to drag
on and on, and a lot of cramp around at the top of Whernside. A long, fading drop off
Ingleborough, past that signpost with false hopes of a short 1.5ml back. It was an
achievement for anyone who stayed the course on such a hot, tiring day. Special
congratulations to Alice for bringing home the Ladies team.
Footnote advert
I am officially a fine art photographer, mainly landscapes. I attended the 3 peaks race
with the intention of capturing the 50th anniversary and outputting any worthy images
as fine art prints. I based myself at the foot of the climb up Ingleborough, capturing the
runners as they negotiated the gated stiles with Whernside providing a backdrop. The
final print is of a high quality using a tried & tested combination of light fast inks & art
paper. The final image size is A4 (10" x 8"). Runners captured from your club are as
follows: D Allen; D Bradbury; AM Harmer; RJ Hopkinson; GA Kirk; AD Moore; M
Robinson; R Slater; D Tait; P Leach & HC Thorburn
If any of the above would like to purchase a commemorative fine art print please
contact me by email: gary.fitch@btinternet.com or 07973 835 201. Price including
postage & packing per print is £7.
Also watch out for the BBC TV programme about the race to be shown later in the summer.
Ravenstones Brow Fell Race : 1 May 2004
Enforced route changes have really improved the course, turning it into a very good
event - provided you can run over classic boggy wastelands. Only part of the dam
path, then the marked path up to the edge path to rejoin at the top of Birchen Clough.
Another good run from Dave Taylor, not many others though...
