LAND 135 Phase 1, Light Armoured Mortar System
SIMULATION TYPE: Task Trainer PROCUREMENT STAGE: YOD 2004/05
LAND 135 Phase 1 seeks to introduce up to twenty 120mm mortar systems mounted in light armoured
vehicles to improve the mobile firepower of the Australian Army, as part of the Indirect Firepower Weapons
Systems Program. The simulation component may be a crew procedural, a part-task trainer and links to
weapon engagement systems simulators.
MINCS(L) 29.17 Weapon Training Simulation System
SIMULATION TYPE: Virtual Trainer PROCUREMENT STAGE: Contract
This project acquired nine indoor, laser-based simulation systems that are used primarily to train soldiers in
marksmanship principles by simulating everyday and night Live Fire Practice. WTSS accommodates up to
twelve soldiers firing as individuals or as part of a section, and has been procured for the major troop
concentration areas of Australia. The prime contractor is Firearms Training Systems Inc (FATS Inc). The
project is currently extending the simulator for the Army Recruit Training Centre, and there is approval for
construction of two simulators for RAAF
MINCS(L) 29.1 Mounted TESS Precision Gunnery Trainer - Leopard (PGT)
SIMULATION TYPE: Operational Systems Trainer PROCUREMENT STAGE: MTESS - Contract
PROCUREMENT STAGE: PGT - Tender Evaluation
The mounted tactical engagement simulation system (MTESS) phase seeks to acquire a laser-based live
simulation system that simulates tank gunfire, and effects in and on other tanks and armoured vehicles.
Individual engagement data will be generated from each participating vehicle, and uploaded to a computer
for post-exercise analysis. The MTESS is to be fully interoperable with the TESS and LMESS for the
dismounted infantry so that realistic combined arms training can be conducted. This has been satisfied with
the procurement of 48 CVTESS systems from Oscmar International.
A Precision Gunnery Trainer (PGT) will fire a laser projector to simulate hits and near misses on opposing
vehicles fitted with laser detection equipment. The fall of shot of main armament and coaxial machine guns
will be replicated in the eyepieces of the gunner and commanders sights. The terminal effects of KE and CE
rounds will also be displayed in the gunner’s and commander’s sights. The PGT is to be interoperable with
TESS and CVTESS. These systems will not be an integral component of the Combat Training Centre
(neither will TESS or LMESS). A formal DTRIAL trial will be conducted on short-listed tenderers as part of
tender evaluation. The successful tenderer is to produce two pre-production models, with four production
models to be delivered by end 2002.
