SIMULATION TYPE: Operational Systems Trainer PROCUREMENT STAGE: Contract<br />

The MHC Project has supplied a Combat System Operational Trainer (CSOT) which is an integrated suite<br />

combining tactical data system, and sonar suites and a Propulsion System Operational Trainer (PSOT). Both<br />

are installed in HMAS Waterhen.<br />

SEA 1654 Phase 1/Phase 2/Phase 3, Maritime Operations Support Capability<br />

SIMULATION TYPE: Task Trainer PROCUREMENT STAGE: YOD 2004/05<br />

SEA 1654 seeks to replace the existing Royal Australian Navy (RAN) afloat support capability for maritime<br />

operations. HMAS Success and HMAS Westralia provide the current afloat support capability. Phase 1 is in<br />

progress and is the Project Definition Study (PDS). Phase 2 (YOD 2004/05) will replace HMAS Westralia<br />

with a purpose-built support ship, when HMAS Westralia reaches the end <strong>of</strong> its design life in 2009 or earlier.<br />

Phase 3 (YOD 2007/08) will replace HMAS Success with another ship <strong>of</strong> the same class as acquired in Phase<br />

2, when HMAS Success reaches the end <strong>of</strong> its design life in 2015 or earlier. The simulation component will<br />

be maintenance and task trainers.<br />

SEA 4000 Maritime Air Warfare Capability<br />

SEA 4000 seeks to provide the Australian <strong>Defence</strong> Force (ADF) with an affordable Maritime Air Warfare<br />

capability as a complementary part <strong>of</strong> a comprehensive, layered air defence capability for the ADF. This<br />

capability will be conceptualised, acquired, tested, accepted, operated and supported, modified, enhanced,<br />

and disposed <strong>of</strong> within a whole-<strong>of</strong>-life management philosophy. The first simulation component will be to<br />

support the concept phase, and follow through with design support.<br />
