only $25. At the door, the price will be $12. If you can’t make our lectures,
the FAU Lifelong Learning Society offers similar lectures at their Jupiter

For the past 21 years, Grank Cerabino has
been a local news columnist for The Palm
Beach Post. He has learned to mine the news
pages for the stories that make people want
to spew out their morning coffee. Cerabino
will talk about his never-ending quest to find
humor in the news, and what it’s like being
opionated in an easy-to-offend world.

Turkey and Israel: Old Friends
Becoming New Foes?
Turkey, as the first Muslim-majority
democracy, has been at the center of
much controversy. Despite decades-long
westernization efforts undertaken under the
secularist elite control, the Islamists have
emerged as the new power holders and are
increasingly consolidating their grip on
power. The new political elite’s ambitious
plans to re-emerge as a global power have
shifted the political and military balance in
the Middle East. Professor Gurses joined
the Department of Political Science at Florida Atlantic University in
2007. An expert on Middle East politics, Dr. Gurses specializes in
ethnic and religious conflict, post-civil war peace building, post-civil
war democratization, and Islamist parties in the Middle East.

Current Events Club ~ We meet on the second and fourth
Thursdays of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Arts & Crafts Room.
The participants present their diverse views on various topics in an

will be discussing three current events topics or having speakers to be

Fishing Club ~ Residents enjoy fishing trips in our local waters and

Hadassah ~ Join us Sunday, December 9 at 7 p.m. for a special
presentation by Mark Kleinman, AIPAC Southeast Regional Director
on Domestic Politics and the Middle East, followed by desserts and
beverages. The cost is $8 until December 4 and $12 at the door. On
Sunday, January 13 at 7 p.m., Evan Kleinman will present his
documentary We Are Still Here that is about the Third Generation of
Holocaust Survivors. This meeting is in collaboration with Chavurah and
desserts and beverages served. The cost is $5 until January 8 and $10
after and at the door. On Thursday, January 17 at 10 a.m., enjoy a light
breakfast followed by a presentation by Nicki Feldman of the Hadassah
Nurses Council who will speak about Osteoporosis. Breakfast is $3 for

January 15 and at the door. On Sunday, January 27 at 10 a.m., join us
for a brunch and a presentation by Larry Strickler on the Catskills. The

Beginner/Refresher Bridge Class ~ This class is offered by
ACBL certified instructor Marilyn Kroll on Wednesdays at
9:30 a.m. starting on January 2.The cost is $80 for six lessons with
a minimum class of eight people. A beginner bridge book is available

Beginner/Refresher Canasta ~ Join us on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.
on February 12 and 19 and March 5 to learn this fun card game.
Valencia Reserve Resident Bob Kaplan and his team are ready to
teach you for a small donation of $35 to Valencia Reserve Pap Corps.

Beginner/Refresher Poker & Pinochle ~ Valencia Reserve
Resident Lou Orenstein teaches Poker and Pinochle for free. The
classes are for beginners and those needing a refresher. Classes are
held on Mondays and Fridays at 1 p.m. in the Poker Room. For

Ceramics/Greenware Class ~ This class is offered every
Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Arts & Crafts Room. Material
costs vary depending on the price of the project. Instruction for this

Delicious Mah Jongg Babes ~ Learn this traditional favorite
game or brush up on your skills. The class will meet every Tuesday at
10 a.m. in Card Room 1 starting December 11. This class is taught
by VR Resident Janie Ronik and the cost is $5 to cover costs. For

Mosaic and Collage Class ~ Join us every Tuesday at 9 a.m. in
the Arts & Crafts Room. No experience is necessary for this unique
class taught by VR Resident Helene Levin. Lessons are free and

Classes
20/20/20 ~ This class features 20 minutes of aerobics, 20 minutes
of standing strength and balance work, and 20 minutes of floor work
including strength and stretching. Classes are held every Tuesday at
9 a.m. and every Thursday at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the Aerobics
Room.
Body Sculpting ~ This class is a total body workout using weights,
resistance bands & body bars. This class is offered every Saturday at
9 a.m. in the Aerobics Room.
Exercise Lite ~ Join us every Tuesday
and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Yoga
Studio to increase balance, core strength
and stability using weights, bands and a
weighted ball. Combine fun with fitness
to increase your cardiovascular and
muscular endurance with non-impact
aerobic choreography. A chair is offered
for support, stretching and relaxation
exercises.
Line Dancing ~ Join us for choreographed dance with a repeated
sequence of steps – done in a line to various types of music. We meet
every Thursday at 4:15 p.m. in the Yoga Studio.
Meditation ~ Reduce tension and stress while feeling happier,
more relaxed and at peace with yourself. Improve your health, mental
clarity and vitality. Sign up in the Fitness Center if you are interested
as a minimum number of participants is needed for this class. We will
meet every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Yoga Studio.
Pilates ~ Named after its creator, the method focuses on strength,
stretching, stability and stamina. It is designed for people who want
to increase core strength and take control of their health. Classes are
every Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Aerobics Room.
Water Aerobics ~ Increase
balance, flexibility and range of
motion safely while improving
your cardiovascular system
using a noodle & water weights.
Classes are held every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday mornings
at 10:30 a.m. in the pool.
Yoga ~ Yoga is a gentle way of moving and breathing to increase
energy, balance, focus and relaxation. The untraditional postures
include standing, sitting and lying down. This class is offered on
Monday mornings at 9 a.m. in the Yoga Studio.
Zumba ~ A fusion of Latin and International music/dance themes
create a fun, dynamic and effective fitness class. Zumba combines
easy-to-follow dance steps with fast and slow rhythms that tone and
sculpt the body. Classes are held every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and
every Friday at 8 a.m. in the Aerobics Room.

The Golden Girls are proud to represent Valencia Reserve and are
practicing three times a week on our beautiful courts with help from
Tennis Pro Keith Dunlop.
Pizza Night is back on Fridays, December 14 and January 11!
Join us for a fun night of tennis and enjoy pizza, beer and wine. This
is a night of social tennis with a round robin format. The cost is only
$10. Sign up with Keith at the Pro Shop. Come rain or shine, we will
enjoy time with our neighbors!
Mixed Round Robin ~ Join us every Saturday at 8 a.m. on the
courts for a co-ed round robin. A donation of just $1 per week covers
costs. No reservations are necessary.
Clinics ~ Improve your game at our ladies’ beginner and
intermediate clinics every Wednesday afternoon. The cost is $10 per
person and reservations are required. Call Tennis Pro Keith at 561-
702-5763 to sign up. Watch for times of these clinics to be posted.
Tennis Teams ~ Competitive teams are forming for the January
season for both men and women. We play in the Palm Beach
County Senior Tennis League and the Grand Slam League for the
men. Contact Keith for details and watch for announcements of our
standings.
Men’s Round Robin Ladder ~ Join us for competitive doubles
tennis every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. on the courts. Sign up with Keith
at the Pro Shop. The cost is $1 to cover cost of new tennis balls.
Watch for details of our special GL Homes “Century Doubles
Tournament” coming in April. We will have multiple divisions of
men and women with combined age of doubles teams from 100 to 140
years young! This is a fun event for participants and spectators alike.

Elections are over, but let’s take
a look at the Presidency from a
different angle. Enjoy this comedydrama
about a widowed US president
and a lobbyist who fall in love.
It’s all aboveboard, but “politics is
perception” and sparks fly anyway.
The movie is directed by Rob Reiner,
written by Aaron Sorkin and stars
Michael Douglas, Annette Bening and
Martin Sheen. The movie is rated
PG-13 and runs for 114 minutes.
Join us for our monthly feature at 7 p.m. in the Social Hall. Only $1
includes popcorn and soft drinks and a movie on the big screen in
the Social Hall. Reservations are accepted up to 48 hours in advance
at the Box Office. A minimum number of reservations are required.

The holiday season is upon us and we have so much
to be thankful for. With all the exciting events
happening this season, your lifestyle staff is most
excited to participate in our
Adopt-A-Family efforts to help make the holidays
better for those who are less fortunate. Please
consider joining our efforts. Also, don’t forget to
make your reservations for our fantastic New Year’s
Eve Gala! It is a great way to ring in 2013 with
friends and neighbors in our beautiful clubhouse.

Fun activities for grandkids of all ages have been planned for the last week of
December. Reservations are now being accepted for all activities. Forms are
available at the clubhouse for all events. The HOA is subsidizing most programs. *
A minimum number of participants are required for these events.

Puppet Show
2 p.m. in the Social Hall
Join Professor “O” and Speaker the Wonder Dog as they go on a search for a
dinosaur that only wants to have fun. This program is interactive, silly and fun for
all ages. Chef Gregory bakes up a surprise for the dinosaur and all ends well. This
program is good for children up to age 10. The cost is $5 per person.*
Candy Sushi
3 p.m. in the Arts & Crafts Room
Children of all ages will have a blast creating their own sushi with tasty treats.
Eat some and then take some home to share in fun take-out boxes decorated by
you! The cost is $3 per person and the event is best for children ages 3 to 10.
Canyon Town Center
All events are free admission with festival
seating. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and picnic
baskets. Pets on leashes are welcome.

Tennis for Tots and Teens
10 a.m. at the Tennis Center
Join us on the courts for fun play until noon. There is no charge for this event.
Children ages 5 and up must have tennis shoes. We have some racquets, but you
can bring your own. Balls will be supplied. Please sign up at the Tennis Pro Shop
with Keith. He is available for private or group lessons as well. Come out and play
tennis any afternoon and Keith will assign you a court.
Fit ‘n Fun (free classes)
1 p.m. Zumba
Exercise to fun, upbeat music in the Aerobics Room. This program is best for
children 7+.
1:30 Exercise and Energize!
Children will have fun exercising and playing games in the Aerobics Room.
Children ages 3 to 6 are welcomed, but must be accompanied by an adult.
2:15 p.m. Young Yoga
This program is great for anyone 4 to 14.
Movie Madness
3 p.m. in the Social Hall
Winnie the Pooh
Eyeore has lost his tail, and Winnie the Pooh and his friends hold a contest to get
him a new one. Join us for popcorn, soda, juice and water and this fun movie on
the big screen. This movie runs for one hour and is rated G. The movie is good for
children up to 10 years old. Only $1 per person.

Wet ‘n Wild Pool Party
2 to 5 p.m. Free for everyone!
Join DJ Eddie who will play songs for the young and the young at heart by the
resort pool. Children of all ages can get their faces painted and play games to win
fun prizes. This event is free to everyone, compliments of the HOA. Sign up at the
Box Office to be eligible for door prizes!
