may or may not see you guys
again but I wish the best of luck
to all of you. Whenever I see
you guys, I think of good times
and I get a smile on my
face. You guys rock.

Taiga Guterres
Swimming for 3 years at
San Marino High School has
been an honor and a privilege. I
have competed against many
competitive swimmers and have
made many friends along the
way. This year proved to be the
greatest of all the years. Moving
up to division 1 in CIF was a
huge change but we coped with
it, and went farther than we ever
have before. Dual meets were
very exciting for me. Watching
my fellow Titans swim was very
overwhelming because I never
realized what a talented group of
swimmers we had this year. I
would have to say that the dual
meet against La Cañada was the
best. We came together as a team
and proved that we were tough
competitors. Thank you Jessica
for our tramp stamps. Although
we fell short of victory, I am so
honored to say that I was apart of
the Team. At League, we
represented San Marino very
well. I remember when Umi
touched the wall after her race
and waved her hand in the air
because she finally got the league
record. Her reaction put a smile
on my face. We had more
qualifiers in finals than ever
before and we proved, once
again, that we were tough to beat.
I will never forget our
get-together’s. Playing charades,
mafia, and guess the movie while
eating wonderful food. Thank
you Kelly for those amazing ribs,
“Shanghai style,” and Derrick for
those noodles at the park when
everyone was starving! We were
all so convinced that Stephen
killed everyone in Mafia but he
was just a good actor. Steph,
thanks for the pictures in the
park, you and I have been great
friends and I will cherish our
friendship forever. Tiffany and I
had some pretty long stories
during that guess the movie game
even though our secret word
would be as simple as “I.”

I’m glad I could share so many
wonderful memories with you
guys.
CIF was a meet against
the best of the best in California
and San Marino did
exceptionally well. Nathan,
Stephen, Daniel, Everett, Steph,
Tiffany, Myrtle and yes even
Samuel, it was so cool that I
could swim with you guys all the
way to CIF. We did an amazing
job placing 10 th in our star
studded 400 free relay. We even
went to the Masters meet and
placed 4 th ! How awesome is it to
say that our relay placed 4 th in
Southern California. Thank you
Everett, Nathan, and Stephen for
making that happen. I was sad
that swim came to an end but in
my last race, the 400 free relay, I
left everything I had in the pool
and snagged the 4 th place spot,
just out touching Mark Keppel
by .01 of a second. It has to come
to an end at some point and I’m
glad we went out with a bang!
14 swim meets, endless,
and unforgettable memories.
Thank you Swim for being
amazing team mates. Thank you
to Taiga for being a great cocaptain.
Thank you Myrtle for
finally getting some good clothes
for our team and organizing
everything. Thank you Saskia
and Diana for being amazing
team captains with Myrtle. The
cheers were a fail sometimes but
we always pulled it together and
cheered thunderous roars of
pride. Mrs. Murphy, thank you
for always providing us with
food and thank you for being a
great assistant coach. Thank
you Mr. Holcomb for being one
of my best coaches and
supporters, you never lost faith in
our team and I am honored to
have swum for you.
There are two ways to look at the
ending of it all. I am sad that it is
all over and am truly blessed that
I could spend my last year with
you guys but I am also very
excited for what the future holds.
I am going to swim in college
next year so I will be exposed to
a different environment of
swimmers but I honestly think
that the time spent swimming in
high school for San Marino was
beyond a doubt one of the best
experiences of my life.

Dear Swim Team,
It has been yet another
great and exciting season of fast
swimming for us this year. We
only lost once at league, which is
more than I can say for other
sports at our school. We had a
strong showing at CIF despite
being moved up to Division 1.
Furthermore, CIF qualifiers
moved past prelims, onto finals,
