meeting, the stadium, the Celebrity
game, the Home Run Derby,
The Grove, the Gala, etc. It was
exhausting and exciting. I think
every volunteer went to every big
venue of All Star Week, and some
didn’t know any of the players/
legends. A couple of volunteers
got tickets to the All Star game
from players whose family members
were not going to go. I
personally was given tickets by
an actress who played in the
Celebrity All Star Game to every
event during the week. I gave
the tickets to my family/friends.
For me, All Star Week was a
dream come true. I love baseball.
It was MORE than I could
have wished for. The baseball
legends I met were very special
and kind. They all talked to us
like we were old friends. I was
lucky enough to see all the
venues, be in the Stadium during
the All Star game, and I also
had the privilege of being
attached to an actress for two
days who treated me like l was
part of her family. Some of us
got asked to work the 2011 All
Star week in Arizona next July.
To all of the other LBPOA
retirees (and former LBPD
Officer Barry Miller) who
volunteered and drove during
All Star week, thank you for a
wonderful week. It was fun to
spend time with you, talk about
“who” you had, autographs you
received, pictures you had
taken or been asked to be in,
security you schmoozed to get
by, business cards exchanged,
etc. It is great to see how much
we are still a LBPOA family
when we get an opportunity
like this one.
To President Steve James…
thank you. This all started
because of the reputation that
LBPOA has within law enforcement,
and the impression you
made during your conversation
with MLB Transportation President
Roy Fugazy. He was looking
for active/retired officers
who would act professional, be
responsible, and get it done. You
gave Roy the names of people
who did just that, and he could
not have been happier. You are
very respected by the provider of
MLB Transportation, and you will
be getting a call for volunteers
for 2011 in Arizona...and ladies
and gentlemen, if you can take
the time, you will have the time
of your life.
