My wife, Maria, and I always
enjoy reading the Rap Sheet. It
is so professionally published
by the staff and there are so
many good articles. Not too
long ago, I read an article by
one of my old buddies, Dennis
Bracken (3rd quarter, 2008).
He expressed a wish that he
could climb into a 'black and
white just one more time' and
cruise down the street. I know
there are many retired coppers
who feel the same way. I had
those same sentiments at times
after my retirement. Well, I was
fortunate enough to retire, and
re-enter law enforcement. Even
though there are some things
about police work I don't
like, I've always loved my profession,
and I think that might
be the best of both worlds: being
a retired cop and a cop.
Anyhow, because I had the
opportunity, I decided to dedicate
one patrol to Denny.
Naturally, when I did, it was
the only time I didn't
find a crook! (Just kiddin'
Denny). But your article
reminded me how fortunate I
was to get that second chance
that so many others won't get,
to saddle-up and climb into a
'black and white just one
more time' and cruise down
the street. I wish every blue
suit who occasionally gets
to feelin' down about the
job could read your article
and remember their good
fortune to be wearing that
superman suit. Thanks,
