By Sgt. Aaron Alu This year’s California Peace Officers’ Memorial ceremonies were held at the State Capitol from May 5 th through May 7 th . When the call was put out that the committee was looking for a police honor guard to render a 21-gun salute, LBPOA Board member Thomas Keleher (a member of the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Board) got the ball rolling. On May 5 th , eight members of the Long Beach Police Honor Guard drove to Sacramento to participate in the Memorial Ceremonies. For anyone who has not attended this ceremony, it is definitely an impressive and emotional event. The Long Beach Police Honor Guard has performed the 21-gun salute at the memorial ceremonies for several years, and once again they did an outstanding job. The honor guard’s participation would not have been possible without the help of the Long Beach Police Officers Association and the Long Beach Police Department. The Long Beach Police Honor Guard members who attended the memorial ceremonies this year were Sergeant Aaron Alu, Corporal Robert “Helmet” Schroeder, Detective Suradech Sriwanthana, Motor Officer Scott Neal, Officer Fernando Cook, Officer Joseph Gludt, Officer Chris Martin, and Officer Chris Ignacio. 12 RAP SHEET
