coaching staff niCole SCholl Head CoaCH • FoURTH SeaSoN • MooRHead STaTe ’94 8 Nicole Scholl enters her fourth season as the Binghamton head coach and her 13th year with the program. During her time at the helm, she has guided the Bearcats into one of the top teams in the America East Conference. Binghamton went 19-12 during the 2010-11 season, tying its Division I era record for victories in a season. In addition, the Bearcats went 11-5 in conference play and defeated all eight opponents at least once during the regular season. The 11 conference wins also marked the program’s highest America East total during a 16game conference schedule. The Bearcats concluded the season by advancing to the America East semifinals for the second time in three seasons under Scholl’s guidance. In Scholl’s three seasons as the head coach, Binghamton has had the America East Rookie of the Year twice (Andrea Holmes in 2009 and Jasbreill Swain in 2011), six all-conference picks and three all-rookie selections. During the 2010- 11 season, the Bearcats had four America East Player of the Week selections and five Rookie of the Week accolades. With only one player being lost to graduation, the 2011-12 campaign appears bright for Scholl and the Bearcats. She was elevated to the head position on April 30, 2008 after serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator the previous three years. Prior to that, she was an assistant coach for Binghamton since 1999. Scholl came to Binghamton from Division II powerhouse North Dakota State University, where she helped lead the Bison to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances — their 12th and 13th straight national bids. As the school’s graduate assistant for two years, Scholl was primarily responsible for on-campus recruiting, floor coaching, game preparation and scouting. North Dakota State has won five national championships, most recently in 1996, and led the country in home attendance nine consecutive years with an average of more than 3,000 fans per game each season. Prior to her role at North Dakota State, Scholl served three years as the head girls’ basketball coach at Hastings High School in Hastings, Minn., where she led her teams to a state championship and overall record of 64-14. In 1996, she was honored as the Region 3AA and Minnesota Class AA Coach of the Year. As a player, Scholl was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain for Division II Moorhead State University (Minn.). She played from 1989-1993, and garnered all-conference, all-district and honorable mention Kodak All- America accolades as a senior. Scholl graduated cum laude from Moorhead in 1994 with a degree in physical education. She received her master’s degree in education from North Dakota State in 1999, where she also served as a physical education and health instructor.
