Innkeeping NOW is a most appropriate title for PAII’s quarterly magazine. We’re all involved in an aspect of Innkeeping, whether as an innkeepers, aspiring innkeepers, interim innkeepers or as industry partners – the individuals & businesses who provide the services and products for managing the inn and pampering the guests. And as for the NOW – you’ll find timely articles on the topics that can positively or negatively affect your business now. Since I joined the PAII team March 1, 2015, we’ve been in weekly communication with you by News You Can Use, Member’s Monthly Innfo and with this issue of Innkeeping NOW. Are we providing news you can use? I welcome your comments & suggestions on which topics and trends you want to read about; you can reach me at kris@paii.org. Both a topic (sometimes hot) and a trend describes Airbnb / the Share Economy / Short Term Rentals – these generate concern on many different levels including licensing, taxing, insurance, affordable housing and neighborhood zoning integrity. PAII Board member Janice DeLerno observed “what affects one of us affects all of us”. So, it makes sense for us here at PAII to not only share our information and advocacy efforts, but to make these reports prominent and easily accessible - because what benefits one of us may benefit all of us! News You Can Use will consistently lead with an update on Airbnb / Share Economy / Short Term Rentals. Recently, PAII Board member Jack North attended the FTC “The Sharing Economy” meeting in Washington D. C., met with AH&LA (American Hotel & Lodging Association), and met with legislators, advocating a ‘level playing field’ for all lodging properties – watch for his reports. So that you can conveniently get the information when you need it, the paii.org website Resources tab will have a topic dedicated to this – we’ll confirm for you when it is live. Innkeeping NOW is an apt descriptor for our webinar series with timely topics such as social media strategies, attracting millennials (and a separate webinar notes that millennials are more likely to post a review on Yelp over TripAdvisor), tax tips, yield management, and more. PAII’s webinar series is a ‘two-way-street’ by familiarizing innkeepers with the industry partners whose services just may be a good fit, and by familiarizing industry partners with the services desired by innkeepers. You have likely noticed that the webinar series is for PAII members only – and we are pleased to announce that on July 1, 2015, PAII membership will become even more affordable! The Professional Innkeeper membership will become $219 annually, the Aspiring Innkeeper membership will become $219 annually, and a new ‘small business’ Vendor membership will debut at $199. Details are on the paii.org website…and elsewhere in this magazine you’ll find a ‘why join PAII’ page. And on a final note … let’s all plan to meet in Austin TX for the Innkeeping Conference & Trade Show Janu- ary 10-14, 14, 2016. What’s new and exciting this year? PAII and HMS (Hospitality Marketing Summit) have entered into a partnership for this event!
