The measuring system for Intensity<br />
Modulated Arc Therapy (IMAT)
For <strong>IMRT</strong> patient plan verification with dynamic techniques<br />
and for checking patient plans from various gantry<br />
directions, a measurement system which has a response<br />
behavior largely independent of the angle of incidence<br />
of radiation is required. The special design of OCTAVIUS<br />
in connection with the cubic chamber design of the<br />
2D-ARRAY seven29 enables the irradiation of the phan-<br />
tom from all gantry directions. Contrary to semiconductor<br />
detectors, which are strongly dependent on the angle of<br />
beam incidence, cubic ionization chambers have an almost<br />

rotation-symmetric response behavior. The<br />
phantom features an appropriate cavity to<br />
compensate the reduced response of the<br />
detector when irradiated from the back.<br />
Given the correct detector, <strong>IMRT</strong> plan verification for dynamic<br />
techniques does not differ from conventional <strong>IMRT</strong><br />
plan verification. A dose plane or dose cube is exported<br />
from the TPS. The measurement plane is selected in such a<br />
way that the most interesting area of the plan is checked.<br />
A detector is positioned in the phantom, and planned and<br />
measured data are compared. The ex works calibration<br />
of the 2D-ARRAY seven29 enables the user to measure<br />
immediately, without timeconsuming<br />
calibration.<br />
