Our process for granting a generalmath credit requires that students pass written academic tests to show pr<strong>of</strong>iciency. ELAcredit is earned in an integrated ELA/CTE course.Virginia is developing an Adult Career Coach model that will focus on assisting adults,with an emphasis on low-skills, low-wage adults, in developing career <strong>and</strong> educationplans, access resources <strong>and</strong> support services that will be available through colleges, OneStop Career Centers, human services agencies, <strong>and</strong> community based organizations.AMTEC conducted case studies <strong>of</strong> five exemplary career pathway programs betweensecondary, postsecondary institutions, <strong>and</strong> local industries. In these studies, students(mostly high school) who completed these partnership programs obtained postsecondarycredentials (occupational licenses <strong>and</strong> technical certification) <strong>and</strong> entered pathways toautomotive or advanced manufacturing jobs <strong>and</strong> relevant associates <strong>and</strong> bachelor’sdegrees.The purpose <strong>of</strong> this presentation is to answer questions such as why are 21st-centuryskills are so important, what do we know about 21st-century audiences, how does 21stcenturylearning impact teacher c<strong>and</strong>idates, what strategies can you use to incorporate21st-century learning in your classroom, are 21st-century schools up to the task, <strong>and</strong> didyou get your invitation to the wedding? Come find out how we are up to the challenge.
