Creating anearly awareness <strong>of</strong> a businesses’ specific education requirements <strong>and</strong> job skills helpsstudents <strong>and</strong> adults match career aspirations with employers.This presentation will focus on how the Greater Richmond VA Region, under theumbrella <strong>of</strong> the capital region Workforce Investment Board (WIB), known asRESOURCE, developed a business solutions team (BST) focusing on the core servicesthat the collective agency partners provide. In the past, there was much confusion aboutwhat agency to go to for workforce assistance, <strong>and</strong> because <strong>of</strong> that, area businessesdidn’t want to use the services <strong>of</strong> the agencies.Mike Neubig has vast experience in scheduling cohort-based programs in the form <strong>of</strong>smaller learning communities <strong>and</strong> career academies. The main focus <strong>of</strong> this work is totrain school leaders to unlock the constraints <strong>of</strong> traditional bell schedules <strong>and</strong> implementhybrid models that allow for flexible, performance driven instruction.This session will provide the most up-to-date information on Virginia’s K-12 efforts for thenational career clusters <strong>and</strong> pathways initiative. The presentation will feature bestpractices in Virginia’s public schools, highlighting the 16 career clusters. Selected bestpractices videos will be shown to the participants.Name the lifelong process that combines self-awareness, knowledge <strong>of</strong> the changingworkplace environment, <strong>and</strong> the ability to effectively prepare for workplace transitions——career development, <strong>of</strong> course. Find tips <strong>and</strong> strategies for addressing each <strong>of</strong> theseareas, then learn how to efficiently fit them easily into workable career planning programsyour clients will use time <strong>and</strong> time again.This presentation will highlight the new ways Kuder® is helping to incorporate pathwaysinto career planning. Kuder’s assessments report results align to the National 16 CareerClusters but users will see a new, additional, <strong>and</strong> highly informative report <strong>and</strong> a rankorderedlisting <strong>of</strong> the student’s five closest matching career pathways. Attend thispresentation to find out more about this report <strong>and</strong> how it serves as an additionalorganizational tool to develop more effective programs <strong>of</strong> study <strong>and</strong> occupationalsuccess.The National Association <strong>of</strong> State Directors <strong>of</strong> Career Technical Education Consortium(NASDCTEc) is coordinating the state-led effort, which will complement <strong>and</strong> supportcomprehensive college <strong>and</strong> career ready st<strong>and</strong>ards, such as the Common Core StateSt<strong>and</strong>ards Initiative (CCSI) in English Language Arts <strong>and</strong> Mathematics. The CCTC willbuild a common connection among states to help prepare CTE students for college <strong>and</strong>career. Forty-one states, DC, <strong>and</strong> Palau have signed a declaration <strong>of</strong> support for theCCTC initiative, pledging their involvement in the development stage. Hear about theprocess used <strong>and</strong> how to access the results. In 2012, NASDCTEc convened the CareerReadiness Partner Council (CRPC) made up leading education <strong>and</strong> business leaders toidentify a definition <strong>and</strong> principles for Career Readiness. Hear about the progress madefrom national leaders made toward defining Career Readiness <strong>and</strong> plans for the futurethat influence Career Readiness implementation in states <strong>and</strong> districts. You’ll hear howthis career readiness work connects to the career ready practices being developed aspart <strong>of</strong> the CCTC <strong>and</strong> how all <strong>of</strong> this is driving policy discussions for Perkinsreauthorization.CareerSafe Online provides educators with online curriculum, resources <strong>and</strong> toolsnecessary to effectively deliver the interactive curriculum to their students. This proactiveweb-based training is designed to provide entry-level workers, particularly secondary <strong>and</strong>post secondary, with fundamental safety knowledge needed in the workplace. If studentsare successful, they will receive a portable national industry recognized OSHA 10-Hourcertificate <strong>and</strong> wallet card. This unique approach to safety can maximize studentachievement <strong>and</strong> help develop life-long, self-directed learners.Through the collaboration <strong>of</strong> faculty, counselors, <strong>and</strong> administrators from middle schools,high schools, career centers (both secondary <strong>and</strong> adult), community colleges, four-yearuniversities, <strong>and</strong> local employers, The Ohio STEM Equity Pipeline Project has beensuccessful in developing <strong>and</strong> implementing innovative research-based strategies toincrease access <strong>and</strong> success <strong>of</strong> nontraditional female students in STEM programs.This presentation will address an overview <strong>of</strong> rural programs <strong>and</strong> student characteristics,innovative counseling approaches, leveraging funding, <strong>and</strong> overcoming truedisadvantages <strong>of</strong> program delivery in rural settings. Examples <strong>of</strong> awards received includetobacco <strong>and</strong> Workforce Investment Board funding. Benefits to participants are differentapproaches to counseling <strong>and</strong> funding for replication.Attendees will underst<strong>and</strong> how Daytona State College Department <strong>of</strong> Adult Educationbuilt <strong>and</strong> implemented a college <strong>and</strong> career preparation elective course for college bound
