Students will explore global understandings of andapproaches to nurturing spirituality during the first two decades of life through preparation for, participation in,and reflection on the XI International conference on Children’s Spirituality, which will be held on the Richmondcampus August 1-5, <strong>2011</strong>. The course provides an opportunity to meet and converse with scholars andpractitioners from around the world whose focus is child and adolescent spirituality.Summer <strong>2011</strong> (ECP).EDU301/601 Spiritual Theology and Christian Education. Prerequisites: THE101 or THE201 and EDU186;or permission of the instructor. Through the ages, Christian mystics and monastics have written about their spiritualexperiences and developed spiritual rules to teach and guide others in faith formation. This course criticallyanalyzes these methods and imaginatively explores contemporary forms of transformational education rootedin classical practices of spiritual formation.Fall <strong>2010</strong>.INT110 Theology and Film. Students explore theological and biblical themes in contemporary movies andlearn ways to engage people of all ages in theological conversation with movies in various Christian educationsettings. This interdisciplinary course may be taken as a theology elective or as a general elective by MACE andM.Div. students.Summer <strong>2010</strong> (ECP).INT263/663 Contemporary Theology and Education. Prerequisite: THE101 or its equivalent or permission ofthe instructor. This course brings the fields of theology and educational theory into explicit dialogue, consideringfive different contemporary approaches to theology and how they are contributing to the design and practice ofChristian education today. Required for MA/M.Div. students. May be taken as a theology or education electiveby MA students.TBA.INT365 Teaching the Bible. This interdisciplinary course examines selected approaches to bible teachingfrom the perspectives of biblical scholarship and Christian education.Summer <strong>2010</strong> (ECP).Christian Education (Graduate Seminars)EDU664 Educational Research Design. This seminar equips students to understand and employ researchmethods in educational settings. The emphasis of this course is on evaluating research and designing studieswith appropriate measurement and statistical analyses.TBA.EDU670 Doctoral Seminar in the History and Philosophy of Christian Education. This seminar combinesseveral elements: an overview of Judeo-Christian education, from ancient Greece and Israel to the twentiethcentury church; individual research in historical topics of interest in each participant’s context; and study ofselected theorists in the history of Christian education.TBA.3-10
