Ghamami Education <strong>Syllabus</strong> 2013II.III.IV.Business opportunity or problem: what purchasing organization managementfocus area has been identified for this analysis, why it was identified, and whyfinding resolution to this problem will be meaningful to the organizationPurchasing Organization Opportunity: Specific details regarding purchasingorganization opportunity findings, what problems are resolved by pursuingthem, what objectives will be achieved by pursuing them, and how the resultwill have a meaningful and positive impact on overall purchasing operations.Implementation Success: Requirements for implementation, barriers toimplementation and how they will be addressed, how the implementation willbe systemic, and key success metricsAll students in each group project team will receive the same final grade from theinstructor for the group project presentation, with one exception as noted below. Shouldone or more team members not provide equal or sufficient contribution by project end,those students may receive a lower project grade, at the instructor’s sole discretion. Ifthere are one or more students in the team that are not participating or are not engaging ina productive fashion, it is up to the team to first resolve these issues before bringing themto the instructor for intervention, as problem resolution skills are an important workplaceskill that need to be developed and refined, and this is also an opportunity to utilizenegotiation skills in a team setting. The instructor should only be involved when theproblems are beyond the team’s ability to resolve.Additional group project expectations and detail will be discussed in week 5 of class, andstudents should seek specific clarifications at that time. Instructor guidance in that sessionaugments the guidance provided in this syllabus and becomes a part of the total set ofexpectations for this project, for which students will be held accountable in total. Thegroup project and presentation will be graded on clarity, depth of thought and research,creativity and innovation of solution, viability and impact of total cost opportunities,presentation skills, and the overall ability for the presenters to influence the instructorrelative to this total cost opportunity.There will also be an online survey that is distributed to students that measures theStudent Learning Objectives (SLOs) for this course and the extent to which they wereachieved. 5% extra credit will be given to students who fill this out in its entirety andsubmit during the timeframes outlined in the course sequence and schedule above.Final course grade will be determined using a curve grading method.Required TextsPurchasing Advantage – Running a World Class Purchasing OrganizationGhamami, 201110
