Ghamami Education <strong>Syllabus</strong> 2013depth of thought and analysis, is frequent and provokes thought and discourse. Whilethis is an expectation for students in this course, active participation cannot make up formissed classes. Students missing class will have their attendance grade impacted. Allstudents must have a clear and representative picture of themselves in their D2L accountto best enable the instructor to assign participation grades. Failure to do so may result ina lesser grade in this category.All exams will be multiple-choice and will be administered through D2L. The timeallocation once you actually start the quiz is generally 90 – 120 seconds per question.These time allocations may be changed by the instructor as the semester progresses. It isyour responsibility to plan for these exams, take them, and to finish them on time.Students experiencing D2L problems or requiring D2L assistance should contact theDO Help Desk (not the instructor for this course) at 916-568-3012 during normalbusiness hours. A number of self-help documents and tutorials can also be foundhere: http://d2lresources.losrios.edu/A group project and presentation is required in this course, as noted above. Students willbe organized into groups and will make a team presentation. The subject of thepresentation will be an analysis of a yet unexploited opportunity for a mid to large sizedcompany or firm to improve their organizational purchasing structure, strategy, orprocess. The specific example being analyzed should be that of a real firm, and therecommended actions should be the ideas of the individuals in the student group projectand not something that the firm is already undertaking, analyzing, discussing, orimplementing. The impact of pursuing this purchasing organization transformationopportunity for the firm should be meaningful to that firm in terms of either optimizingthe level of business risk in the organization, improving purchasing efficiency, increasingpurchasing productivity, improving effectiveness and results of purchasing expenditurestrategy plans, improving policies and procedures to improve organizational results,improving success metrics to improve organizational results, or any other major initiativethat directly aligns with the concepts taught in this course AND presents a positive andmeasurable business impact to the organization. All groups are required to seekinstructor approval of their proposed focus area(s) for their group project presentation.The group project presentation should be about 30 minutes in length including questionsand answers, and must be done in Microsoft PowerPoint. The instructor should receive acopy of the presentation in email by not less than four hours before class starts on the dayof the presentation. The instructor should also receive a hard copy of the presentation atthe beginning of said class.The group project presentation should cover the following flow:I. Background: what firm is being analyzed, what product or service theydeliver, and how this firm was identified for the group project presentation9
