Message from the ChairOn behalf of the governors I am pleased to present this report to you. Itis intended to provide an overview of the school’s activities and achievements. We have had another busy year and whilst it may seem like Miss Phillips hasbeen our Headteacher forever, it is only during the last 2 months that shehas taken on the role on a permanent basis. I am pleased to say that theschool has developed and strengthened under her guidance. She is now ableassisted by Mrs Walpole who we were delighted to appoint to the position ofDeputy Head during the year. Our thanks go to Mrs Browning who had beencovering the position of Deputy with Mrs Walpole since 2006.We face ongoing challenges as a school with vandalism, county wide schoolreorganisation and parking problems being just some of them. However, with thecontinuing dedication and commitment of all the teaching andnon-teaching staff, as well as the boundless enthusiasm of our pupils, I amsure we will continue to grow and succeed. Finally, I would like to say thank you to the Ffrindiau which continues toorganise wonderful fundraising and social events. The success of theseevents is a testament to the hard work put in by many parents and friends ofthe school and is key to the success of our school community.Paula Kennedy

BudgetWe ensure that spending is shared between the needs of the curriculum, the needs ofthe buildings and staff. (see appendix C).The £24,024 surplus from the 2007/2008budget has been used to fund the cost of PPA teachers for the current academic year,an electronic school bell, railings for the new Foundation Phase garden and changesand resources needed to deliver the Foundation Phase and Curriculum 2008effectively. Some of the investment has since been used to install a new CCTVsystem (which was fitted very soon after the fire in the Nursery/Recepiton yard duringthe Summer holidays).Special Educational NeedsThe careful planning of a differentiated curriculum ensures that each pupil takes partin activities best suited to his/her ability. Regular monitoring of the pupils’ progressenables teachers to plan appropriate activities. Planned and differentiated activitieswill support some pupils and will stretch others in order that all achieve their fullpotential. At times some pupils will face more significant problems, where extra helpwill be required. If extra support is needed the school will contact the parents, invitingthem to discuss the provision of additional lessons with the headteacher and teacher. If it is decided that a pupil needs a statement of special educational needs the schoolwill maintain close contact with the parents and work with them and any necessaryexternal agencies. We are continuing to use the Stars and Dyfal Donc strategies andare about to start using the Dyfal Donc numeracy scheme.See Special Needs policy for further details.Equality and DiversityWe believe that each individual, of whatever ability, race, religion or backgrounddeserves equality of opportunity to succeed in this school. We are proud to be a school that welcomes pupils and staff from different socialbackgrounds, race, religion, disability and ability.Attendance and AbsencesSee below the attendance figures for the last academic year (2006 – 2007)% attendance % authorised absences % unauthorised absences93.6 5.1 1.3
