PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
We certainly have had a mild winter; but for those that want
snow and good lake ice, remember this Minnesota winter is
far from over. I hope you enjoyed the Holiday Season and
have had a great start to the New Year. My wife, Pat, and I
had a wonderful Christmas with our family on the shores of
beautiful Gull Lake. It doesn't come much better than that.
I must also take the time to thank those of you that have
come forward and have supported, with contributions, the
special needs we have had as part of the Gull Chain of Lakes
this past year. During the summer, we had a boat wash available
for those using the Hole in the Day boat access off
Highway 371. We asked for assistance, once again, late in the
year in our efforts to take advantage of a matching program
extended to the Gull Chain of Lakes Association by the
Initiative Foundation to set up a permanent endowment to
support environmental issues. Contributions to both programs
have exceeded $75,000. Many, many thanks!
If you are a four season resident of our Chain, or seasonal; we
all have one thing in common: We love THE LAKE. We refer
to THE LAKE as if it is the only lake in Minnesota. Yes, our
lake homes are very special. Some of us just love our great
views that bring a certain amount of peace and comfort in
our busy lives; while others enjoy all the activities living on
the lake affords. Whatever the case is for you, we are extremely
fortunate to have the privilege to own property on one of
Minnesota's premier chain of lakes. Our challenge in the
years ahead is to keep it that way.
With every privilege there come certain sacrifices, and we as
part of the Gull Chain are no different. If we are going to
protect and improve this great resource we have as lake property
owners, we need everyone on the Chain to step forward
and assist in our efforts to continue the programs we have
underway. We have just started with the programs that were
initiated last year. Yes, we already have Zebra mussels, but
other invasive species exist that pose an even bigger challenge.

The opportunity is still there to protect our lakes from further
problems, but GCOLA will continue to need your help.
Your GCOLA board is planning a major event on July 30 at
Grand View Lodge to help raise some of the much needed
resources to continue our efforts. Please mark the date on
your calendar. It is our hope that with the event in July and
your further voluntary contributions, the needs will be met.
This is the beginning of what will be an ongoing effort to
maintain and improve the quality of our lakes. Much more
will be coming your way regarding the event planned in July,
as well as the work of your board.
These are challenging, yet exciting, times as we join together
as residents to preserve our beautiful Gull Chain of Lakes.
