10Pilot puroks were exp<strong>and</strong>ed to <strong>in</strong>clude puroks 4 <strong>and</strong> 5. Recoredaswere <strong>in</strong>tensified with double <strong>the</strong> effort <strong>the</strong> organizers started with. As ofOctober 2005, IEC has already been conducted on 13 of 18 puroks <strong>in</strong><strong>Gusa</strong>. Collection of recyclables, residuals, <strong>and</strong> biodegradable wastes wasscheduled on separate days. This schedule is flexible <strong>and</strong> dependent on<strong>the</strong> volume of accumulated recyclable wastes <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> puroks. However,biodegradable wastes are collected on Mondays <strong>and</strong> Fridays only.‣ Strictly implement waste segregation.Segregation at source was strictly implemented. This was approved by <strong>the</strong> city government <strong>and</strong> has s<strong>in</strong>cebeen executed <strong>the</strong> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of 2006.‣ Strictly enforce penalty system forviolators.A penalty system was imposed toviolators. Upon first offense, a letter of noticeis sent to call <strong>the</strong> violator’s attention to <strong>the</strong>law violated. At a second <strong>and</strong> third offense, acitation identifies <strong>the</strong> household memberwho failed to segregate. It is upon <strong>the</strong> fourthRE-EDUCATION FOR VIOLATORSoffense that <strong>the</strong> violator is summoned <strong>and</strong>reoriented on waste segregation. As of this writ<strong>in</strong>g, 84 householdmembers <strong>and</strong> 1 bus<strong>in</strong>ess establishment has been summoned to <strong>the</strong>council.‣ Establish a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)The barangay council selected a suitable location for <strong>the</strong> MRF.
