This 60-hour MedicalInterpreting course meets the certification criteria as establishedby the National Board of Certification and prepares interpreters totake the National Certification Test. Offered in collaboration withTransFluenci, this course is designed for the new or experiencedinterpreter and will train you to work in the medical setting accordingto the standards and ethics of the profession. This course is open toall languages, but students must be fully bilingual with stronglanguage skills. Students must possess the ability to comprehendand communicate in both English and at least one other language.Because a selective interview is required before acceptance, studentsmust register at least two weeks in advance. Currentoxygen delivery equipment and devices will be discussed anddemonstrated. Discussion of the artificialairways and clearance techniques will be covered. The current usesof bronchoscopy will be examined and analyzed. This course is approved for four contact hours according to theAmerican Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).CSHH072 Manage VentilationThis three-week course will offer the advanced study of ventilatormanagement. Initial settings, advanced modes, waveform analyses,rescue techniques, and strategies will be discussed in length alongwith case studies. Differential and independent lung ventilation,intrahospital transport of unstable and high-risk patients, andoptimizing patient-ventilator interaction will also be reviewed andanalyzed. There will be a lab component to this lecture that willreview the topics covered in class. This course is approved for 12contact hours according to the American Association of RespiratoryCare (AARC).CSHH073 Neonatal and Pediatric Respiratory CareThis course will concentrate on the assessment of the newborn,respiratory care of newborn and pediatric population, CPAP,mechanical ventilation of the neonate and pediatric population,specialty gases, and ECMO. There will be a lab component to thislecture that will review the topics covered in class. This courseis approved for four contact hours according to the AmericanAssociation of Respiratory Care (AARC).CSHH074 Noninvasive VentilationThis course will concentrate on the history and development ofnoninvasive ventilation, indications of noninvasive ventilation,selecting appropriate patients for noninvasive ventilation,equipment used, management of noninvasive ventilation,complications of noninvasive and the time and cost associated withnoninvasive ventilation. There will be a lab component to this lecturethat will review the topics covered in class. This course is approvedfor four contact hours according to the American Association ofRespiratory Care (AARC).CSHH075 Delivery and Effects of Pharmacologic AgentsThis course will update the learner on current respiratory caremedications including bronchodilators, narcotics, antimicrobials,vasodilators, and steroids. A review of different classifications,routes of administration drug interactions, and complications willbe discussed. The administration of specialty gases will be analyzedand reviewed. There will be a lab component to this lecture that willreview the topics covered in class. This course is approved for fourcontact hours according to the American Association of RespiratoryCare (AARC).CSHH076 Critical Care ImagingThis course will review chest imaging: CT scan, PET scan, Ultrasound,MRI, and V/Q scan. The indices of respiratory physiology andmechanics will be discussed including oxygenation, work ofbreathing and carbon dioxide clearance. The critical care sectionwill discuss neurology including EEG, respiratory function,neuromuscular function, stroke, levels of consciousness, brain deathcriteria, and seizures. The cardiovascular system will include physicalassessment, diagnostic testing, arrhythmias, CHF, coronary arterydisease, pulmonary hypertension, and systemic hypertension. Therewill be a lab component to this lecture that will review the topics59
