IntroductionThe University of Western Australia has a long anddist<strong>in</strong>guished history and has produced many outstand<strong>in</strong>ggraduates who have given service to Australia and the<strong>in</strong>ternational community. As a member of the prestigious Groupof Eight research-<strong>in</strong>tensive universities, it is consistently rankedamongst the top Australian universities.Professor Alan RobsonVice-ChancellorApplications are <strong>in</strong>vited for the newly established<strong>Chevron</strong> <strong>Chair</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Gas</strong> <strong>Process</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. The<strong>Chair</strong>’s role calls for an outstand<strong>in</strong>g eng<strong>in</strong>eer witha demonstrated record of achievement <strong>in</strong> processeng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. Applications are also encouraged from<strong>in</strong>dividuals early <strong>in</strong> their career who can demonstrateoutstand<strong>in</strong>g potential. The appo<strong>in</strong>tee will have primaryresponsibility for build<strong>in</strong>g and lead<strong>in</strong>g a unique andsusta<strong>in</strong>able research and <strong>edu</strong>cation enterprise,focus<strong>in</strong>g on gas process eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, and will alsoprovide technical advice and research services to thesponsor<strong>in</strong>g company. The <strong>Chevron</strong> Professor of <strong>Gas</strong><strong>Process</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g will play a lead<strong>in</strong>g role <strong>in</strong> thedevelopment of The University of Western Australia,<strong>in</strong> partnership with <strong>Chevron</strong>, as a centre for worldclass capabilities <strong>in</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of eng<strong>in</strong>eers for the oil andgas sector. The appo<strong>in</strong>tee will be expected to lead amajor world-class research programme <strong>in</strong> gas processeng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> close collaboration with <strong>Chevron</strong> EnergyTechnology Pty Ltd.UWA is actively build<strong>in</strong>g upon its already substantialcapacity and impact <strong>in</strong> the Oil and <strong>Gas</strong> sector andrecent appo<strong>in</strong>tments <strong>in</strong>clude a Woodside-<strong>Chevron</strong><strong>Chair</strong> <strong>in</strong> Petroleum Geoscience. The <strong>Chevron</strong> <strong>Chair</strong><strong>in</strong> <strong>Gas</strong> <strong>Process</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g will provide the seniorleadership to draw together the various capabilities tocreate a comprehensive, world-class capacity <strong>in</strong> gasprocess eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g teach<strong>in</strong>g and research.The appo<strong>in</strong>tee will be responsible to the Head of theSchool of Mechanical Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, and will provideleadership and foster excellence <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g andresearch with<strong>in</strong> the School, the University and thecommunity generally. In particular, the appo<strong>in</strong>tee willaddress the petroleum <strong>in</strong>dustry’s need for enhancedtertiary <strong>edu</strong>cation and research <strong>in</strong> gas processeng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g.
