Role, Responsibilities, Selection Criteriaand Conditions of EmploymentROLEThe <strong>Chevron</strong> Professor of <strong>Gas</strong> <strong>Process</strong>Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g will play a lead<strong>in</strong>g role <strong>in</strong> thedevelopment of The University of WesternAustralia, <strong>in</strong> partnership with <strong>Chevron</strong>, as a centrefor world class capabilities <strong>in</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of eng<strong>in</strong>eersfor the oil and gas sector.UWA is actively build<strong>in</strong>g upon its alreadysubstanial capacity and imapct <strong>in</strong> the Oil and<strong>Gas</strong> sector and recent appo<strong>in</strong>tments <strong>in</strong>cludea Woodside-<strong>Chevron</strong> <strong>Chair</strong> <strong>in</strong> PetroleumGeoscience.The <strong>Chevron</strong> <strong>Chair</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Gas</strong> <strong>Process</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>gwill build upon these developments and providethe senior leadership to draw together thevarious capabilities to create a comprehensive,world-class capacity <strong>in</strong> gas process eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>gteach<strong>in</strong>g and research.The appo<strong>in</strong>tee will be responsible to the Head of theSchool of Mechanical Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, and will provideleadership and foster excellence <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g andresearch with<strong>in</strong> the School, the University and thecommunity generally. The appo<strong>in</strong>tee will addressthe petroleum <strong>in</strong>dustry’s need for enhanced tertiary<strong>edu</strong>cation and research <strong>in</strong> gas process eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g.Primary teach<strong>in</strong>g objectives are to produce highquality eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g graduates with skills relevant to thepetroleum <strong>in</strong>dustry. The appo<strong>in</strong>tee will be expectedto lead a major world-class research programme <strong>in</strong>gas process eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong> close collaboration with<strong>Chevron</strong> Energy Technology Pty Ltd.RESPONSIBILITIESKey responsibilities <strong>in</strong>clude:• Contribut<strong>in</strong>g to and lead<strong>in</strong>g the teach<strong>in</strong>g of worldclass undergraduate and postgraduate courses<strong>in</strong> process eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, with particular emphasison gas process eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, and <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g therecruitment rate of high quality students <strong>in</strong>to thecourses;• Build<strong>in</strong>g a vibrant research team, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the useof <strong>Chair</strong> support fund<strong>in</strong>g to immediately hire twopost-doctoral staff and engage two PhD students;• Utilis<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Chair</strong> discretionary fund<strong>in</strong>g to build the<strong>edu</strong>cation and research programmes• Identify<strong>in</strong>g and develop<strong>in</strong>g a wide range of researchprojects, consistent with the mission and themesof the University and the needs of the sponsor<strong>in</strong>gcompany, <strong>Chevron</strong>, and obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g fund<strong>in</strong>g(especially through applications to competitivegrant schemes) to support <strong>in</strong>dividual projects asrequired;• Devot<strong>in</strong>g up to 1 day/week to provide consult<strong>in</strong>gservices to <strong>Chevron</strong> Energy Technology Pty Ltd• Work<strong>in</strong>g co-operatively with other cognate UWApersonnel and with the University’s researchpartners through WA-ERA;• Supervis<strong>in</strong>g undergraduate and postgraduatestudent projects;• Contribut<strong>in</strong>g to the development of oil and gaseng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g at UWA through <strong>in</strong>volvement <strong>in</strong>professional associations, conferences, and otherexternal activities;• Serv<strong>in</strong>g as the UWA-<strong>Chevron</strong> relationshipmanager <strong>in</strong> the field of oil and gas eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g,and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a productive and constructiverelationship with <strong>Chevron</strong> Energy Technology PtyLtd accord<strong>in</strong>g to the agreement between UWA and<strong>Chevron</strong>;• Work<strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong> the legislative requirements ofthe University and support<strong>in</strong>g the University’scommitment to health and safety, equity anddiversity.6
