The Faculty of Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g,Comput<strong>in</strong>g and MathematicsThe Faculty of Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, Comput<strong>in</strong>g and Mathematics has a long track record ofdist<strong>in</strong>ction <strong>in</strong> research and teach<strong>in</strong>g, and <strong>in</strong> serv<strong>in</strong>g the needs of the local and <strong>in</strong>ternationalcommunity, particularly <strong>in</strong> the resource-rich State of Western Australia.The Faculty is home to two Federation Fellows andthe 2007 Prime M<strong>in</strong>ister’s Young Scientist of the Yearfor the Physical Sciences, together with many otherdist<strong>in</strong>guished academics. Graduates from the Facultyare greatly sought after by employers and competitionfor places <strong>in</strong> the Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g program <strong>in</strong> particular isextremely high. The UWA Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g programme hasone of the highest entry standards <strong>in</strong> Australia andattracts the bulk of the top students from the State.At a postgraduate level, the Faculty is experienc<strong>in</strong>gstrong growth, aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> response to <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>gdemand from <strong>in</strong>dustry.The Faculty is home to the Schools of MechanicalEng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g; Civil and Resource Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g;Environmental Systems Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g; Electrical,Electronic and Computer Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g; Comput<strong>in</strong>gScience and Software Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g; and Mathematicsand Statistics. The Faculty is also host to the Centrefor Offshore Foundations Systems and the AustralianCentre for Geomechanics.The eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g degree offers 12 programmes ofstudy, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Chemical and <strong>Process</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g,Petroleum Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>Process</strong> Instrumentationand Control. Students may also take majors with<strong>in</strong> theprogrammes, such as the Offshore major with<strong>in</strong> theCivil Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g programme and the Hydrocarbon<strong>Process</strong><strong>in</strong>g major with<strong>in</strong> the Chemical and <strong>Process</strong>Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g programme. Research and teach<strong>in</strong>grelevant to the Oil and <strong>Gas</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry is conductedacross several schools and centres <strong>in</strong> the Faculty,across faculties and across <strong>in</strong>stitutions through variouscollaborative Centres and alliances.The School of Mechanical Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>gThe UWA School of Mechanical Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g isthe largest of the Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Schools at UWAand is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> a wide range of discipl<strong>in</strong>es andactivities. The School runs undergraduate programs<strong>in</strong> Mechanical, Materials, Mechatronics, Chemical &<strong>Process</strong>, and Petroleum Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. In addition, theSchool runs a variety of <strong>in</strong>dustry oriented postgraduateteach<strong>in</strong>g programs with a specific focus on theOil and <strong>Gas</strong> sector. The School also prides itselfon the strength of its research programs <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>gpostgraduate research, <strong>in</strong>dustry research andfundamental research across the full scope of School’sactivity.The School of Mechanical Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g works <strong>in</strong>close collaboration with the petroleum <strong>in</strong>dustry onmany excit<strong>in</strong>g new technological advances andprovides lead<strong>in</strong>g-edge tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g to undergraduate andpostgraduate students through its wide teach<strong>in</strong>gand research programs.
