The Travel Industry Association ofAmerica’s (TIA) premier trade show –International Pow Wow – organized inAnaheim . 4600 delegates, 1200 peoplefrom outside the United States , 3200sellers, and 400 media were presentat this year’s event. Grand opening ofInternational Pow Wow took place onMonday, April 23. TIA President andCEO Roger Dow made his grand entranceon Tai - a 38-year-old, 8700-poundAsian elephant. Dow said, “We are ata crossroads in our industry” and addedPow Wow – Anaheimthat TIA is working with Congress andthe administration to assure a balancebetween security and ease of travel. Announcingthe lost since the U.S. slippedfrom attracting 7.5% of the global shareof international travel in 2000 to 6.1% in2006, Dow said, “We have lost visitors.We must recapture their attention, theirexcitement to come to the United States ”.First day, at media marketplace, publicrelations professionals from U.S.Supplier organizations met with internationaland domestic travel media anddiscussed story ideas, arranged personalizedpress trips, distributed presskits in two sessions. Several foodand drink stands were at service of delegateswhom enjoyed a great night withseveral music performances and ridingDisneyland ‘s attractions that continuedto operate for this special dinning event.Last yay Grand Finale is organizedat Club Anaheim where all participantsof the International Pow Wowcame together and enjoyed severalselection of food and beverages.The California Tourism and TravelCommission organized six spectacularfamiliarization tours throughoutthe state. International buyersand sellers attended one of six tours.
