He joined the ranks of thevarsity squad for the first time duringthis spring practice that is the topicof sports talk around the School of<strong>Mines</strong>. John Mason agrees that heis good so fans will probably get usedto hearing about Harry Hallman nextyear. He has been practicing with thebackfield, showing that he can handlea ball in excellent fashion.O M OART WOODS., of Western Springs,Illinois, is a natural born entertainer.His humor is the spark of the footballteam. At wingback position. Artshows a lot of fire. He gained somegood experience this j'ear and expectsto be his best tbis coming season. Heis a junior student of mining engineering.0 M OROBERT C. PRUESS, of GrantsPass, Oregon, is a junior student ofmining engineering. He played tackleon the <strong>Mines</strong> football team. Nextseason will be the last one for Pruessand a lot of action is expected fromhim.HAROLD ROGERSNICK SHIFTAR, of La Crosse,Wisconsin, is a senior student ofgeology. He played guard for theMiners and did it very capably.Nick's spirit and enthusiasm will besadly missed this next season and hisposition will be a hard one to fill.There is no better example of whatsportsmanship means at <strong>Mines</strong> thanNick Shiftar.• M OHAROLD ROGERS, of Jonesboro,Arkansas, is a sophomore student ofpetroleum production at tbe ColoradoSchool of <strong>Mines</strong>. He plays at wingbackposition on the football team.As a pass receiver, Rogers is spectacular;often catching them in one handor with the tips of his fingers. Thisyear he hopes to replace Madden onthe team. Rogers made as enviable arecord in basketball as he did football.He finished the season by beingnamed all-conference. At football,basketball, track, and any other competitivesport Rogers is an ail-aroundman. He can be counted on to makea good showing for the Miners duringthe rest of his time here.ROBERT H. SHANLEYRICHARD MOEJ another LosAngeies man, is a big and powerfulmember of the <strong>Mines</strong> football team.As a tackle there is none better;always on the job getting his man. IfJohn Mason were asked what heneeded most to make him completelyhappy, he wouid probably say, moretackles like Moe. Richard is asophomore student of mining geology.Among his other accomplishments, hecan handle a piano in a very musicalfashion.ROBERT H.O M OSHANLEY is a sophomorestudent from Long Beach, California.His father, John R. Shanley,Jr., '15, is president of the ShanleyOil and Gas Company in Long Beach.Robert has gained weight since the1939 season and Coach Mason expectshim to make a good showing inthe backfield of tbe 1940 footballteam.LOUIS DE GOES, of Los Angeles,California, is a junior student ofgeology at the Colorado School of<strong>Mines</strong>. He plaj'ed end on the 1939championship football team. Hisperfect blocking was responsible formany of the scores the Miners made.Louis is also an ace basketball player.He suffered an injury, however, earlyin the season and was forced to dropbasketball until next year.0 M OCLAY L. CREAGER hails fromCincinnati, Ohio. He is a juniorstudent of petroleum production atthe Colorado School of <strong>Mines</strong>. Clayplays at end on the football team, andexpects the 1940 season to be his outstandingyear. He is also a memberof the hasketball squad. He belongsto the Alpha Tau Omega fraternityand has been prominent in manycampus activities of the school.0 M HARRY D. CAMPBELL hails fromPasadena J. C. Several injuries andan illness kept Campbell frora provinghis full worth. He played at tailbackposition and displayed a fine bitof passing.
