Iam confident that these measureswill have the same impact onthe lorry and bus industries.”The introduction of graduated fixedpenalties is part of a major driveto change the behaviour of noncompliantdrivers and operators.For example, any fixed penaltyapplied will be taken into accountwhen the DVA is consideringwhether to suspend or revoke anoperator’s licence where thereis a record of offences on issuessuch as roadworthiness, speeding,overloading or drivers’ hours.Tachographs Spread.indd 80 20/03/2012 09:45

In the heavy class (15 tonnes +) in the EuropeanUnion a record market share of 15.5% was achieved, which putsthe Dutch truck manufacturer well on its way towards its targetof 20% over the medium term. With a market share of 18.9%in Europe, DAF is number 1 in the heavy tractor segment.DAF is market leader in theNetherlands, Belgium, GreatBritain, Poland and Hungaryand the largest import brand inGermany and France. In Austriaand the Czech Republic, DAFoccupies a strong second place.In the tractor segment, DAF isalso the market leader in theNetherlands, Great Britain,Belgium, Poland, Hungary andthe Czech Republic. In France,Spain, Italy, Germany andHungary, record market shareswere achieved in this segment.In the total European tractorsegment, DAF achieved a marketshare last year of nearly 19%.The total market for heavycommercial vehicles in the EuropeanUnion last year was about 244,000units, an increase of over 33%compared to a year earlier, whenapproximately 183,000 trucks wereregistered in this segment. DAFexpects the market for heavy trucksin Europe will reach 210,000 to240,000 vehicles this year. For thelight segment - in which DAF isactive with the LF - it is estimatedthat the market in Europe willremain at a level of approximately56,000 units. DAF saw its marketshare in this 6 to 15 tons classrise from 7.7 to 8.9% in 2011.DAF has also strengthened itsmarket position outside theEuropean Union. In 2011, thetruck manufacturer delivered morethan 5,200 CF and XF vehicles,more than twice as many as in2010. Significant growth was,among others, achieved in Russia,Turkey, Morocco, South Africa andTaiwan, where last year the 1,000thlocally assembled CF rolled offthe assembly line and where DAFis the market leader among theEuropean brands in heavy tractors.In the UK, DAF maintained itsexceptional performance byachieving leadership in the marketabove 6 tonnes for the 17th year insuccession. DAF increased its overallmarket share by 2.6 percentagepoints over 2010, registering 9,863trucks to achieve a market shareof 26.4%.
