Most name servers cache the results of previous name queries which canconsiderably reduce off-domain or Internet DNS queries. In the event that aresponse is not received, possibly due to an incorrect name of the entry of a name nolonger used, the local name server will generate a `failure to resolve' message after aperiod of time that will be displayed on the requesting host's display.TCP/IP con®gurationThe con®guration of a station on a TCP/IP network normally requires thespeci®cation of four IP addresses as well as the station's host and domain names. Toillustrate the con®guration of a TCP/IP station, Figures 2.33 through 2.35 showthe screen settings on a Microsoft Windows NT workstation used to con®gure thestation as a participant on a TCP/IP network.Figure 2.33 illustrates the Windows NT 4.0 Network Protocols tab with TCP/IP Protocol selected. Note that in the Network Protocols box the entry NWLinkIPX/SPX Compatible Transport is shown. Windows NT has the ability tooperate multiple protocol stacks to include NWLink which is Microsoft's implementationof the Novell IPX and SPX protocols.
