Curriculum Review at UNIS HanoiOne of the major recommendations from UNIS Hanoi’s 10 yearreaccreditation by CIS/WASC was for the school to establish astandards-based curriculum in all subject areas and to furtherarticulate the curriculum across the whole school.A new position of Curriculum and Professional DevelopmentCoordinator was created in 2010-11 with the responsibilityto oversee and support the development of a coherentand articulated curriculum from Discovery to Grade 12.A formal curriculum review cycle has been establishedand Curriculum Review Teams began the process in2011-12, which involves clearly documenting andarticulating standards and learning outcomes (including skillsand understanding) in each subject through each grade level. The written documentation will be done via an onlinecurriculum mapping tool so that scope and sequencedevelopment can be easily tracked and gaps andredundancies can be noted and addressed. Outside ofthis formal review cycle, ongoing curriculum review isencouraged and supported at individual grade/departmentlevels in order to ensure that learning is relevant, engagingand aligned with 21st century learning. For more information about the report contact Director ofLearning, Meagan Enticknap-Smith: dol@unishanoi.orgDigital CitizenshipIn 2011-12 UNIS Hanoi invited a renowned leader in the fieldto come and work with students, faculty, parents and BoardMembers towards developing Digital Citizenship with ourstudents.Robyn Treyvaud, an educational leader and online safetyeducator working with schools and communities across theAsia Pacific region, came to UNIS Hanoi during our DigitalCitizenship Week in October 2011.Building on the work by the Tech Team and Counselors, RobinTreyvaud reinforced the message that Digital Citizenship issimply good citizenship in another ‘virtual’ terrain. Her goal is to help protect and educate the world’s firstgeneration of kids to ‘grow up digital’ in an environmentwhere computers, the internet, video games and mobilephones are ubiquitous.
