NADOMEŠ»ANJE INFORMACIJSKIH PRIMANJKLJAJEV S KOMPLEMENTARNO ...completing the clinical and numerical approach. More than a likely changeof direction (from clinical/global to numerical) the use of verified andcomparable testing formats is important. Any modifications or mixingoriginally excluding questions or formats and/or concepts can cause hugeproblems and makes interpretation more difficult, which was found outby Horvath (1991) when he verified the validity of Backster's controlquestions in Reid's CQT format. The most important test formats also baseon consistent theoretical concepts and explanations, which were verifiedmany times. Numerical evaluation of reactions also does not come fromsubjective impressions of the evaluator but it follows clear and definedmeasures and rules (for example Backster's laws (Backster, 1994)). Membersof different polygraph schools in the world (Thompson, 1998:2) have beenof unique opinion for a long time that within the prescribed test structurethe correct formulation of questions is of key importance for the result ofpolygraph testing/psychophysiological veracity examination. The significanceof question formulation was also clearly demonstrated when introducingcomputer polygraphs and algorithms, used for evaluation of polygraph charts.Among most verified and used testing formats are Zone Comparison Test(ZCT) and Modified General Question Test (MGQT) but all this is of coursetrue for the USA and English language (SeliË, 2002 (b)). A quality test is anecessary but not also a sufficient condition for a reliable and technicallyfounded result of a polygraph examination. The result mostly depends onthe level of expert knowledge of a polygraph examiner. However it has to benoted that a simple translation of any other verified testing format withoutknowledge and considering original concepts and theoretical grounds can leadto erroneous evaluations.SLOVENIAN EXPERIENCEThe Slovenian practice of psychophysiological veracity examination usingpolygraph was in the past successful mainly due to the use of Peak ofTension Tests (POT). The test requires, that questions for a person, who isnot involved, are such that each questions is equally (un)important and/or(un)threatening for her/him (SeliË, 2002 (b)). Some authors (for exampleLykken and Nakayama) called such a test the Concealed Information Test(CIT). It is a series of questions among which one is relevant (it relates to atrue information on criminal offence), and other questions are neutral, but188
