The first row <strong>of</strong> <strong>plan</strong>ts should be 7.5 meters from the centre <strong>of</strong> the railway l<strong>in</strong>e.No <strong>plan</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g is to be done under telephone and electricity l<strong>in</strong>es. However, small shrubs can be<strong>plan</strong>ted under telephone and electricity l<strong>in</strong>es, <strong>plan</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> Bouga<strong>in</strong>villea will splash colour alongthe strips. In case <strong>of</strong> embankments, slopes should not be <strong>plan</strong>ted. Inside <strong>of</strong> toe curves should notbe <strong>plan</strong>ted <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>of</strong> visibility. Station yards may be <strong>plan</strong>ted <strong>in</strong> consultation with railwayauthorities. On both sides <strong>of</strong> the un-manned level cross<strong>in</strong>g, no <strong>plan</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g should be allowed with<strong>in</strong>100 m on either side.No <strong>plan</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g is to be done on Railway platforms and <strong>in</strong> Railway colonies.(c) CANALS:It has been laid out <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>ter-departmental rules that first row should be<strong>plan</strong>ted 7.5 meters (25') away from the "Daula" <strong>of</strong> the major canals. In case closer <strong>plan</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g is tobe done the Divisional Forest Officer may, consult XEN Irrigation. Inter department rules areannexed <strong>in</strong> Annexure-XVII.1.10 STATE OF BOUNDARIESThe railway strips are well demarcated with the help <strong>of</strong> boundary pillars. Thereare boundary pillars along some <strong>of</strong> the roads and canals. There are no boundary pillars <strong>in</strong> case <strong>of</strong>Bunds and dra<strong>in</strong>. Land <strong>plan</strong>s for most <strong>of</strong> the canals, road and railway l<strong>in</strong>es are available but <strong>in</strong>case <strong>of</strong> dra<strong>in</strong>s, bunds, distributaries and m<strong>in</strong>or, they are not available <strong>in</strong> the Sub-<strong>division</strong>s.1.11 LEGAL POSITION(a) STRIPSThe ownership <strong>of</strong> canal, road, bund and dra<strong>in</strong> strips and Block <strong>forest</strong>s vests withthe Punjab Government whereas that <strong>of</strong> Railway Strips vests with the Central Government. TheStrips have been transferred to the Punjab Forest Department for management vide Govt. LetterNo. 6058-Ft-II/3305 date 31.12.1957 and have been declared protected <strong>forest</strong>s under Chapter-IV<strong>of</strong> I. F.A. <strong>of</strong> 1927 vide Punjab Govt. Notification No., 1122-Ft-58/ 1195 dated3.5.1958.(Annexure II)Before transfer <strong>of</strong> these strips their management was with irrigation, P.W.D.(B&R) and Railway authorities, for canals, roads and rails respectively.(b) BLOCK FOREST21
