PREFACEThe preparation of Working Plan has never been as relevant an exercise as ithas been 1988 Forest Policy of India and the judgement in T.N.Godaverman Vs Unionof India case in Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. A serious thought process has startedgoing into the preparation working plan document. Further Hon'ble Court has given thedirections that the Govt. of India shall its say in the preparation of Working Plans ofvarious states by way of involvement of its representatives from the regional offices ofGovt. of India.Focus areas in the present working plan has been as follows:-1. Enhancing the forest cover and to maintain the ecological balance.2. Improving productivity of existing forests and to obtain sustained yieldof timber.3. Special care has been taken to see that there must not be anyadverse effect on the regeneration status and forest cover whileharvesting matured/over matured trees.4. To maintain the diversity of the wild animals including the avifaunapopulation.5 To create awareness and sensitize people about the forest and itsrole towards the welfare of the society on large.The salient features of the present working plan are as follows:-1. The main purpose of the Working Plan is the conservation of the Forestsand raising the ecological and environmental status of the area byimproving the growing stock.2. There has to be no felling of Shisham trees, fruit trees in all forests.3. The prescribed yield has been reduced to 50% of the calculated yield.4. Indigenous and miscellaneous tree species will be given preference overexotic species in the plantation programmes.5. There will be no clear felling of areas
