(90.398)Illegal ActivityThe landlord must start theeviction process by a no-cause,for-cause, or 24-hour notice ifa tenant is involved in illegalactivity. (90.396) If a tenantis aware of illegal activity inthe premises, they should takesteps to notify the landlord andproper authorities. The tenantmay be considered part of theactivity unless they can provethey were trying to stop it.RetaliationMany tenants are hesitant totake actions to enforce theirrights because they fear that thelandlord will retaliate, either byevicting them, or by increasingrent or decreasing services(such as shutting off the power).The Act prohibits retaliatoryconduct, and retaliation mayserve as grounds for fighting aneviction.
