Theywere the recipients of $50 at our Chicken Luncheonin March courtesy of the MGA. Since anepidemic has started, let’s have some more. There has been some confusion about theMulligans for Hospice. To clear things up, ifyou spent $2 for mulligans they can be usedat anytime, anywhere when playing in thescramble. While we’re talking about scrambles let meremind you there is a one-club length rulefrom where your ball has stopped. If you arein the rough it must stay in the rough; if you’rein the sand it must stay in the sand; if you’rein the woods it must stay in the woods; if youare in the fairway you must stay in the fair-Candler HillsMen’s GolfGarry GerlachThe President’s Cup concluded on March4 with Garry Gerlach winning 2 up with oneto play. It was a great event with some terrificmatches, many going to sudden death.Everyone involved had a great time, so if youmissed it this year plan to enter next year. The next big event will be the CHMGA ClubChampionship. It will be a two-day event onApril 24 and 25. If there are sufficient entrants, the play will be flighted. There will bea dinner following play on the second day. There will be a modest entry fee similar to thePresident’s Cup. Sign-ups will begin on April2. If you decide not to play in the Club Championship, there will not be a league event onApril 24.We have a great golf course. If you playway; you can improve your lie one club lengthon either side of the ball.Ground under repair: there has been someconfusion how to handle the ground underrepair on Links No. 12 and 13 because of theinstallation of the new cart paths. This areais to the right of the new cart paths. Pleasebe aware that if you hit the ball far into thewoody area to the right and not on the groundunder repair area you do not get a free drop.Until the area is landscaped and smoothedout you are entitled to a free drop out of thisarea; your closest relief will probably be to theleft of the cart path. The way you take this relief: go to yourclosest relief not closer to the hole, take astance with the club you would use for yournext shot, then a club length from there, dropthe ball and wherever it finishes that’s whereyou play the ball from. If you get the right hillthe ball could roll several feet into the fairwayand that’s where you would play from. That’show you take a free drop according to USGArules. Please note that a drop with a penalty is adifferent procedure. While we’re talking about rules, it has cometo my attention, that members, while playingNo. 9 on Tortoise and Hare and hitting theball to the right into the red stake area havelifted their ball out of that area and taken afree drop. This is a lateral hazard and thereis no free drop out of this area, also you arenot allowed to ground your club. If you arethe captain that day you are required to call apenalty on this person if that’s what they do.This keeps the event fair for everyone.I can see the tee sheet and the hole listings. Thanks to Jeff McDonald he has had installednew glass that can be seen through on bothsides of our bulletin board. Now we don’t haveto strain our “old” eyes to see where we belong. This was done at no cost to us. Thankyou, Jeff, for taking care of this problem. The many lessons of golf: Golf teaches thateven though you probably don’t have a shot atbeing the best, you do have a good shot at beingthe best you can be. Rabbi Marc Gellman,PH.D, and Monsignor Tom HartmanSee you around the course. other courses in the area you will get an appreciationfor how great our course really is.Thanks to Andy for all he and his crew do tokeep it that way. We can also help by properlyfilling our divots, raking traps and fixing ballmarks on the greens. To properly fill a divot, put sand in the hole and step on the sand tocompact it.See you on the links.Candler Hills Men’s League Results4-Man Teams Three Best BallFeb. 20192—Paul Moltisanti, Bob Cooke, Jim McGrath,Jim Bragg; 193—Rick D’Addio, Tony Misterly, BobCowie, Ken McDonald; 194—Bob Shively, DaveMasaschi, JC Van Bloom, Ed Wilson.2-Man Teams StablefordFeb. 2779—Jim Hewes, Bob Starrett; 76—Dave Masaschi,Dick Masterson, Roger Whittle, John Podkormski;74—Paul Moltisanti, Blind Draw; 73—Garry Gerlach,Fred Hobbins.4–Man Team’s One Best BallMarch 651—Bob Cowie, Jim Bragg, Dick Williams, GarryGerlach; 55—Bob Shively, Tony Misterly, DickMasterson, Dick Pleinis; 59—John Massari, DaveSchultz, Marvin Brooks, Paul Moltisanti, Bob Starrett,Bryant Giffin, John Podkomorski, Roger Wittle.4–Man Teams StablefordMarch 13155—Paul Moltisanti, Marvin Brooks, John Podkomorski,Ken McDonald; 154—Garry Gerlach,Jim McGrath, Jim Bragg; 148—Jim Hewes, RogerWhittle, Tom Racinowski, Bob Starrett.
