CountyProgramsOur County Programs continue to evolve under thewings of our ‘Big Bird’ Sarnia-Lambton. It has beenan incredible ride! The more time we spend workingin the county, the more flexibility we build into ourprograms. Like manufacturers who pride themselveson their ‘Just In Time’ delivery of goods, we try hard toassess changing client base and county issues, thenprovide “just in time” delivery of programs.Transportation issues in the county can bean obstacle for our clients and we mustcontinuously look at our client populationand come up with inventive solutions toserve them. Another ongoing struggle isto maintain a ‘home base’, keeping costsin mind, but also to plan and prepare ourprograms-to-go. Our work in the countyreceives fantastic support from the localOPP and the principals and staff in countyschools.Spring 2011 was busy with a Petrolia Life Choicesprogram and several in-school SAFE Schools programsthroughout the county. We also had several STANDclients in Petrolia throughout Spring and Summer 2011.In the Fall 2011, we had a Life Choices program inPetrolia and we invited Mike Neuts to be our guestspeaker on the much needed topic of “Bullying”. Our22 youthparticipatedin our countyprogramscounty venue was a ‘first time Rebound experience’for this experienced guest speaker. He had a profoundeffect on our youth and volunteers. In Forest wehad a smaller number of client referrals, so we metthe needs of these clients by having a round-tableSTAND program, with a focus on Life/SAFE Choices. Our guest speaker, OPP Det. Jeff Hardie pulled up achair to join us at the round table. Jeffprovided facts on the dangers and longterm effect of oxycotin and other illegaland over-the-counter substances. Thissmall, informal, after-school venue is yetanother creative way to meet the needsof our county clients.During the Winter 2012, Reboundstaff delivered in-school programs toKinnwood School in Forest. STAGE Jr.and TAG programs were facilitated. Inaddition to STAGE at Kinwood, STANDwas offered in Forest out of our location at the NorthLambton Community health Centre. In Petrolia we had a Winter 2012 Life/SAFE programwith our usual dedicated county volunteers. Ourvolunteers often drive many miles to be with us andthey are fearless when it comes to winter driving. Ourthanks to them.participant quotesParent: “I think that the program has educated and perhaps put ahealthy fear in the use of marijuana in particular.”Youth: “This program has helped me make better decisions; thatkeeps me out of trouble.”Youth: “The guest speakers are amazing – their stories are amazing, the people at Rebound are great and Rebound is a fun and helpfulplace.
