Late-maturing hay-type. Blooms and matures seed an average of 10-14 dayslater than commercial varieties. Well adapted to grow in a mixture withalfalfa for hay or pasture. Leaves abundant, broad, well-distributed,noticeably light green in color. Vigorous and high in vegetativeproduction, with rapid recovery after harvest. In the Pacific Northwest,where it is best adapted, most winter-hardy among leafier varieties. Of7 orchardgrass varieties, lowest in lignin content & higher indigestibility. Disease resistant particularly more resistant to leafspot than many varieties.The following were developed by J.L. Starling. Donated by Pennsylvania StateUniversity, Pennsylvania Agr. Exp. The other3 from domestic collections made in NY, PA, and MD. Maturityintermediate between early Potomac and late Pennlate. Highest yieldingin tests in Pennsylvania in both total annual yield as well as inaftermath production. Resistance to leaf streak (Scolecotrichumgraminis) similar to Pennlate and Potomac.
