Leaves, sheaths, and seed heads pubescent.Pubescence is distinctly noticeable on margins of leaves and edges ofglumese and lemmas. Widely adapted to Pacific Northwest and Great Basinstates at elevations of 100 to 1800m on well drained, medium to heavytextured soils where annual precipitation averages 25 to 40cm. Pedigree - Mass selection of spaced plantsfollowing intense roguing through two generations of PI 106831, acollection made in Turkey in 1934. Seed heads may appear almost glabrousand resemble A. intermedium, but basal leaves always hairy, particularlyon margins. Leaves wide, lax, and dark green. Herbage production highand more palable than intermediate wheatgrass. Seedling vigor and easeof establishment outstanding. Best suited for dryland pasture on deepersoils of the Rocky Mountains and Inter-mountain region.219

Perennial, creeping-rooted,sod-forming grass, and adapted to the Brown and Dark Brown Chernozemicsoils. Glumes, lemmas, and rachis more pubescent than Topar. Excellent seed producer with good reseedingcharacteristics under natural environments. Developed for stressenvironments of the Southwest.
