Elytrigia intermedia (Host) NevskiCultivar. "GREENAR". CV-3. Pedigree - Selection in 1937 from PI 98568introduced from USSR. Vigorously growing, mild sod-forming,late-maturing, leafy, dark-green, broad-leaved, high-producing,disease-resistant wheatgrass. Seedling vigor good. Good grass companioncrop with alfalfa. <strong>Plant</strong>s variable, but over 90% are green. Less than 5%show trace of pubescence. Spring recovery early and abundant and fallrecovery good. Widely adapted to well- drained soils in dryland andirrigated areas in the Pacific <strong>No</strong>rthwest. A slate- colored strain of Nebraska 50, developed fromseed increase of 60 clones, and 1 of Amur, from 57 clones. Winter-hardyperennial forage replacing Nebraska 50 for seed production and useprimarily in the central Great Plains. Used principally as a cool-seasonpasture crop and sometimes hay. In central latitudes, growth beginsearly and extends into the summar grazin season, with good foragequality and acceptance by cattle. Seedling growth good and establisheswell during cool weather of fall or spring. <strong>Plant</strong>s strongly spreading byrhizomes. Show reasonable uniformity in height, leaf color, and time offlowering.<strong>The</strong> following were developed by T. Outyields bromegrassand reed canary grass when grown on fertile well-drained irrigated landand will equal crested wheatgrass and outyield bromegrass under droughtconditions on dryland.
