Legislation.Thc following draft BiU, which will in due course be submitted for enactment, is published for generaldnfoTxnaition :—A BILLENTITLEDwoPiAKH mAmnii»A LAW TO AMEND AND CONSOLIDATE THE LAWS RELATINGTO THE PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF PUBLIC ROADS.1. This Law may be cited as <strong>the</strong> PubKc Roads Law, <strong>1948.</strong> short title.2. In this Law, unless <strong>the</strong> context o<strong>the</strong>rwise requires— interpre-( , , - . , , , tation.pubuc road means any street, square, pathway,open place or space vested in <strong>the</strong> Crown for <strong>the</strong> use pf<strong>the</strong> pubhc under any law in force for <strong>the</strong> time being(notwithstanding that <strong>the</strong> same may be under <strong>the</strong> controlof any o<strong>the</strong>r authority or body and notwithstanding that<strong>the</strong> expense of repairing and maintaining <strong>the</strong> same isborne by such authority or body) and includes any pathway,open place or space over which <strong>the</strong> pubhc has aright of way and any bridge and culvert over which apublic road passes and <strong>the</strong> parapets and battlements ofany such bridge or culvert and any ditch, embankment,drain, causeway or supporting wall used inconnection with a public road and any land adjacent <strong>to</strong>any pubhc road which has been reserved for its protectionor benefit.3. A person shall be guilty of an offence under this offences forLaw who does or causes <strong>to</strong> be done any of <strong>the</strong> following ^ o^r'*^**".acts in, upon or over any pubhc road, that is <strong>to</strong> say :— pubUc roads.(a) constructs or erects any structure or erectionwhatsoever, whe<strong>the</strong>r of s<strong>to</strong>ne (including looses<strong>to</strong>nes), concrete, mud, iron, wood or of any o<strong>the</strong>rmaterial whatsoever;(b) constructs or erects any fence of any kiud or of anymaterial whatsoever;(c) lays any timber, s<strong>to</strong>ne, manure, lime, soil, ashes,rubbish or any o<strong>the</strong>r matter or thing whatsoever ;(d) puUs down, destroys, defaces or obhterates anymile-s<strong>to</strong>ne, post or traffic sign;(e) digs up, destroys or causes any o<strong>the</strong>r injury ordamage <strong>to</strong> any such road;(f) suffers any filth, dirt or offensive matter or thingwhatsoever <strong>to</strong> rim or fiow in<strong>to</strong> or upon any suchroad;'{g) does anything on any land adjacent or in closeproximity <strong>to</strong> any such road so as <strong>to</strong> damage anysuch road or <strong>to</strong> affect or <strong>to</strong> be likely <strong>to</strong> affect <strong>the</strong>safety of any such road ;{h) rides, drives, leads or suffers any animal <strong>to</strong> be onsuch road in a maimer likely <strong>to</strong> cause annoyance<strong>to</strong> any passenger <strong>the</strong>reon or <strong>to</strong> obstruct orendanger any traffic on such road;(i) plays any game likely <strong>to</strong> cause annoyance <strong>to</strong>any passenger on such road or <strong>to</strong> obstruct anytraffic <strong>the</strong>reon;(j) in any way wilfully obstructs <strong>the</strong> free passage.4. The Direc<strong>to</strong>r of Pubhc Works may, from time <strong>to</strong> time Power <strong>to</strong>I)y notice pubhshed in <strong>the</strong> GazeUe, prohibit or regulate <strong>the</strong> ?JSic°'^°^use on any pubhc road, as may be mentioned in <strong>the</strong> notice.
