Product BulletinOptical Vapor Eliminators and Differential Valves - NH 3and LPGOver the past several months, Liquid Controls hasreceived valuable feedback from our customersregarding the performance and operation of theanhydrous ammonia (NH 3) and LPG optical vaporeliminators and differential valves. The summarybelow details our findings and explains the correctiveactions implemented to resolve the issues. We wouldlike to thank you for your patience and understandingwhile these issues were being rectified. As always, wewelcome your comments and appreciate your continuedsupport of Liquid Controls.Optical Sensor (Optical Vapor Eliminator)Upon notification of malfunctioning optical sensors inthe field, Liquid Controls investigated the componentand its operation. LC discovered that our supplier hadrevised the production process of the component fromthe original specifications. As a result, the LED settingof the optical sensor was too low to reliably detect thepresence of LPG and NH 3in the air eliminator chamberkeeping the differential valve closed. Consequently, the supplier has revised the LED setting in the sensorfor proper operation. Since the first incidents ofunresponsive sensors, every optical sensor has beentested before assembly and shipment.Diaphragm (Differential Valve)A number of customers with NH 3meter systems equipped with differential valve (part no. A2849) reported wicking in thedifferential valve’s diaphragm. Wicking causes the diaphragm to expand and prematurely fail. Engineers at Liquid Controlsredesigned the diaphragm for NH 3applications, and the new diaphragm, made with EPDM (part no. 501555), has beenimplemented into the differential valve assembly.Solenoid O-rings (Optical Vapor Eliminator)After reports of defective O-rings between the solenoid and the optical vapor eliminator housing, Liquid Controls determined thatthe supplier inadvertently supplied Buna O-rings instead of EPDM O-rings. Immediate corrective action was instituted with thevendor and the correct EPDM O-rings are being supplied.Liquid Controls Group A Unit of IDEX Corporationwww.lcmeter.com
