In common with many other districts, Hyndburn has shown a significantincrease in one-person households and those containing dependent childrenbetween 1991 and 2001.4. HOUSING STOCKKEY TRENDS /THEMES• Percentage of owner-occupiers decreased from 79.2% to 74.6% between 1991and 2001• Percentage of households renting in the private sector increased from 6% to11% between 1991 and 2001• 5.6% of Hyndburn’s housing stock was vacant in March 2004• Over 12,000 homes in the Borough are currently not compliant with thedecent homes standard. Of these 5,700 dwellings are statutorily unfit. – theseare over represented in vacant, pre 1919, terraced dwellings• 29.1% of housing in the Housing Market Renewal intervention areas is unfit• Over 50%of the housing stock is terraced limiting housing choiceThere are approximately 35,700 houses in Hyndburn (HIP 2003) with 22,000built before 1919.
