Stroke is the most significant cause <strong>of</strong>disability in adults. The majority <strong>of</strong> people with a physical disability are under55.• The 2001 census indicates that 22% <strong>of</strong> the population suffers from alimiting long-term illness (LLTI).• The Lancashire CC district pr<strong>of</strong>ile in 2001 identified that 41% <strong>of</strong>households in <strong>Hyndburn</strong> have a member with LLT illness/disability –13,644 implied – an increase from the 1991 census <strong>of</strong> 11%.
