It has continued to promotethe principles of peer accountability, dealing withstudents who have failed to uphold their responsibilitiestowards their fellow studentsand other members of thegeneral public.1997 has also seen the Tribunalextend its horizons - movinginto the field of mediation. Peermediation has been successfulin all schools where it has beenintroduced and Hutchins hasproved to be no exception. Allthe members of the Tribunalunderwent extensive trainingwith Mr Alan Dear and by themiddle of the year becamequalified mediators. Mediationhas been frequently used sinceits introduction and hasprovided a valuable method ofdispute settlement in whichboth parties have been able tonegotiate satisfactory outcomes.-15The Tribunal has been well represented by NiallSeewang and Edward Rimes (Year 12), Greg Steedmanand Mark Evenhuis (Year 11) and by David Harper assecretary. Thanks must also be extended to Mr Crippsfor his input throughout the year. The Vivit PostTom WilkinsonChairman of the Student TribunalThis year the Vivit Post has tried to reach a wideaudience. The subject matter has ranged from thevery serious issue regarding Pauline Hanson, to lighterhearted articles such as the vox pop on the meaning oflife. We have tried to find a balance between seriousdebate and more easily accessible material, and althoughsometimes the balance has been hard to achieve, I thinkwe found it by the end of the year. The editorial team has been fortunate to have theassistance of the English Faculty, and particularly MsWerner, for proofreading and suggestions. Mr Hickeyand Mr Morley deserve special thanks for spending hoursof their weekends in front of the photocopier. Finally,we must thank all the contributors for their articles(including students from Years 9 and 10), and AdamEijdenberg for spending valuable time (which could havebeen used to make important phone calls) working onthe layout. The editorial team consisted of Mark Evenhuis: writingEvenhuis' Propaganda column; Lukas Plumb: author of'Ramblings of a tryhard Philosopher', 'Dear Pauline...',and deputy editor; Tom Larkey: creator of Philbert, EvilClowns, 'The Meaning of Life', and giver of artisticguidance; Adam 'Computers Hate Me' Eijdenberg: layoutand graphic design; and Stephen Catchpole: editor, whomanaged to sound sincere every time he said the finalcopy would be ready soon.Stephen CatchpoleEditor Vivit PostThe Vivit Post team: Lukas Plumb, Mark Evenhuis, Jamie Shearing,Tom Larkey and Stephen Catchpole
