At the Hutchins Fair 10 PCr ran a Snow ConeStall, raising well over $100. Kyle Brown was the drivingforce behind this class effort, ably supported by NickHewer and Ian Wilson.Academically the group has performed very well. Somenotable achievements were made by tutor members inthe Australian Science competition. A high distinctionwas achieved by Ian Wilson, whilst Alistair Kan andAaron Buckland both achieved distinctions. AaronBuckland gained a high distinction in the AustralianNational Chemistry quiz with Ian Wilson gaining adistinction. Tim Polegaj was part of theHutchins team that won the State final of the PlanYour Own Enterprise competition.Throughout Term 1 all tutor members gave a talk on asubject of their choice. We startedthe year with Mrs Crabtree, who left us after just oneterm. (Surely we can't be that bad?) Mr McLeod took thehelm for Terms 2 and 3, and proved himself to be a goodtutor, keeping the class under control quite successfully.Seriously though, we all enjoyed having Mrs Crabtree asour tutor, and she was greatly missed. There have been many events this year: some are worthmentioning and others are best forgotten. Here are somehighlights from 1997. Everyone in the tutor group eithercompeted or cheered with all their strength for themighty Buckland House in both the swimming andthe athletics carnivals. Several group members wereinvolved in debating, choirs, House music, maths andscience competitions; and many received Merits, 1st and2nd colours for various things. Will Whitehouse, DavidBlackwood and James Walker performed in Three Doorsto Death.Jamie Chung Gon and Mark Jeffrey went to Torquayto compete in the International Cadet worldchampionships earlier this year. Many boys wereinvolved in 1st sport teams. Whatever Hutchins had tooffer, one or more of our champions would get involved.Sadly we will saying goodbye to two really great ones Joel Cairns and Big Ed Spurrier, who will be leaving usat the end of the year. Good luck to Ed and Joel. The HousemasterAs I have said quiteoften this year, Ihave thoroughlyappreciated theeffort that this year'sLeavers have madeto maintaining thetraditions of BucklandHouse. Under theleadership of DavidHarper and BrettNewman everythingcame together verywell. Thisreport includes the effort of just one year group, Year 10,and what an outstanding list of achievements they are.
