Junior School Sportsport program in the Junior School has astrong emphasis on participation by all students.rrheWe hope that a Hutchins child will learn thevalue of physical activity and sport, and be able to finda sport where his self confidence can grow.The summer sport program is low key and culminates ina House competition in Term 3. Traditional activities ofcricket, softball, tennis and swimming improvementhave been offered. Australian rules, soccer and hockeycontinue to be the mainstream winter sports. Basketballhas a very strong following and is optional.All boys are to be congratulated for the enthusiasm andcare they have taken in the preparation for their games.Sportsmanship has been a focus this year, with therituals of handshaking and customary cheers for theumpires and opposition mandatory for the winterseason.The House competition has been keenly contestedthroughout the year. Stephens House performedparticularly well in all carnivals. The sense of identity,loyalty and commitment is certainly evident in ThePreparatory Department and the Junior School.Many thanks must go to a dedicated group of people ­coaches, managers and parents. Without their supportJunior School Sport would not offer the breadth anddepth of experience that each boy deserves. I am surethat sport in the School has helped (although notmeasurable) to create a vibrant, healthy School culture.Many incidences are re-counted on Monday morningsand teachers have seen talents and abilities not seen inthe classroom.I have enjoyed directing Junior School Sport and I haveno doubt that boys will continue to enjoy comradeshipand development of skills on the sports field.Mr M. Can't you go and sit in thecar or come back later?' What a lovely warm commentfrom your kindergarten child! However, this proves thatwe are doing our job successfully, with the mainobjective being to have fun.Our Holiday Programs are always full of excitingexcursions and adventures to amuse and entertain notonly the children but their carers as well.The Centre is open to boys and girls, Kindergarten toYear 6, from any school.
