The radios will be used toprovide line-of-sight and beyondline-of-sighttactical voice and datacommunications to armed forcespersonnel. Harris is providing thesenations with Falcon III RF-7800VVHF and Falcon II RF-5800H HFtactical radio systems, along withtraining, installation and fieldsupport services. The orders includebase stations, vehicular systemsand manpack and handheld radios.The RF-7800V family covers the 30MHz to 108 MHz frequency rangeand supports data rates up to 192Kbps, making it the fastest combat<strong>net</strong> radio available today, saidthe company. The RF-7800V alsoprovides time-critical BMS reports,while delivering simultaneous<strong>net</strong>worked voice and datacommunications to multipleusers.The Falcon II RF-5800H-MPprovides beyond line-of-sightterrestrial voice and datacommunications. It providescontinuous coverage in the 1.6 to60 MHz frequency band, enablingthe warfighter to stay connectedeven in the harshest conditions,when line-of-sight communicationsare not an option. The contract, received byRaytheon's Network Centric Systemsbusiness and valued in excess ofUSD 600 million, was awarded as adirect commercial sale by the SaudiMinistry of Defense (MOD) and willprovide a national, strategic C4Isystem, providing capabilities forjoint service coordination.RGO carries out firstoperational firing ofa VL MICA missileThe Royal Guard of Oman (RGO)recently successfully carried outthe first operational firing of aVL MICA missile. The firing, usingthe RGO’s own VL MICA GroundBased Air Defence (GBAD) system,took place at the Abeer testrange located in the centre of theSultanate of Oman. All aspects ofthe firing exercise, which includedthe detection, interception anddestruction of an ATARID targetflying at more than 14 km rangefrom the VL MICA missile launcher,were completely successful. Forthe test firing, an operational VLMICA missile equipped with anRF seeker was used. The VL MICAGBAD system, delivered to the RGOby MBDA and operating in standalonemode under the control ofits own Tactical Operation Centre,detected the target with its 3Dradar (TRML3D supplied by EADSCassidian). This operational exercisesaw the 19th successful firing of aVL MICA missile.
