BEL alsohas strong in-house strengthsfor development of commandand control software, signal dataprocessing and crypto algorithms.The Weapon Locating Radar(WLR) has generated a lotof interest among forces,especially Indian Army. Canyou tell us about your radarprogrammes?BEL, in collaboration with DRDO, isable to offer state-of-the-art radarsto all the three services. The currentgeneration radars like Rohini, 3DTCR, Ashlesha, Bharani, Rajendra forAkash programme and WLR havebeen successfully trial evaluatedand are being productionised.The technologies developed inthese radars are benchmarkedwith world class products. Thenext generation radars which arepredominantly AESA based radarslike Arudra and Ashwini, are in anadvanced stage of development.BEL has also developed throughin-house R&D, a doppler weatherradar for IMD.Can you tell us about theCoastal Surveillance Systemthat BEL is developing for theIndian coastline? What otherprojects are you doingfor maritime securities?Coastal Surveillance System: Thechain of static sensors for Indian CoastGuard has been envisaged to monitorthe coastline of our country. The StaticSensors System at each of the locationsconsists of coastal surveillance radar,VHF communication system, electroopticsensors, MET sensors and AIStransponders, and is installed on thelighthouses and towers. Each radarsite is linked to the remote operatingstations. The remote operatingstations are further linked to regionaloperating centers which are connectedto the control center of the CoastGuard.16
