7.3 Analysis of Communities and Their Evolutions in Dynamic Networks 157Fig. 7.9. The results of world trade patterns [15]Fig. 7.10. The temporal changes of trade over time [15]October 2001. The interesting finding from this figure is that the intra-role communications inthe government affairs and legal parties substantially decrease over this time period, while itincreases in the executive and pipeline roles due to the fact of being investigated. More insightsdiscovered could be further found in [15]. In summary, the proposed three-way decompositionalgorithm provides a useful means for capturing the latent aggregated components andthe temporal analysis.7.3 Analysis of Communities and Their Evolutions in DynamicNetworksFor many social network datasets, the commonly used representation is graph model, wherethe nodes denote the individual members and the edges represent the relationships and interactionbetween the nodes. For example, a co-authorship network could be modeled as aundirected graph, each node representing one specific author while the edge between twonodes giving the co-authorship fact. In such applications, thus, one important typical task ofsocial network analysis is finding the communities embedded in the social network datasets, and moreover, analyzing the evolutions of the communities in dynamic networks. The evolutionpattern as one kind of temporal analysis aspect sometimes could provide us an interesting
