Some will accept a "guttered"base, others won't. The .22 autos are excellentchoices for scoping. Their usefulnessfor plinking the small game hunting isgreatly increased by scoping them.Revolvers must be considered in severalways. Recoil, barrel or shroud thickness, material, and frame construction is important.I don't believe in drilling more holesthan necessary to assure a strong mountsystem and absolutely do not think holesshould be drilled in the top strap of manyrevolvers. Likewise, mounts that utilize therear sight elevation screw hole in the frameto affix themselves to the frame are subjectto damaging the threads. When this occursit's a real problem getting an iron sight towork on the gun.If the revolver has a ribbed barrel obviouslythis is the best place to mount thescope base. With the scope mounted directlyabove the barrel balance is adverselyaffected. The SSK TSOB Base for ribbedrevolvers mounts with up to three large, strong screws to the rib and extends overthe frame to allow a wide latitude in positioningof the scope without drilling theframe. On single action revolvers such as theAbilene, Ruger, Interarms and similarwithout a ribbed barrel and having verystrong frames it is necessary to use theframe as an anchor for the base. There justdoesn't seem to be a practical way of makinga 100% reliable mount without drillingon these revolvers in .44 Magnum caliber. The requirements ofscoping the centerfireauto pistols are highly specialized andtheir use is so limited they probably aren'tworthwhile discussing although theWildey will probably warrant scoping. From the looks of the Wildey it shouldprobably be the easiest ofthe centerfire autosto scope. The most frequently scoped pistol isprobably the TIC Contender. In calibersof .357 Magnum and smaller it's usuallynot a problem to keep a mount on it. In thehard kickers, I've seen scopes slip in therings, rings bend and the four mountscrews shear off.The T'SOB Base utilizes the originalfour mounting holes in the TIC barrel plusadding two more forward of those fourholes to increase the "footprint" of themount screws from approximately 1.455"to 2.600". This wide spacing of the screwsand rings provides much greater mechanicaladvantage as well as increased.45 COMBAT SHOOTERSAmbldlxtrous Salltys $30.00.
