LEADER’S GUIDE FOR DVD-111CAdvanced Hand Soldering TechniquesAdvanced Hand Soldering Techniques (DVD-111C) has been developed toprovide a detailed discussion and demonstration of new approaches to handsoldering. These new techniques will require a higher skill level to meet thechallenges of our evolving industry. The following is a description of this IPCTraining Certification program.The program is divided into six sections – an introduction and sections on eachof the advanced techniques needed for drag soldering, ultra small chipcomponents, DPAKs and BTCs, heavy thermal mass through hole componentsand wicking large BGA land patterns.All of the training and testing materials for this program are available fordownload at: http://training.ipc.org/dvd/111c/The URL for these download materials is also printed on the face label of theDVD.These training support materials include a twenty-question examination and aprintable certificate for students that score 70% or better on the final test.How to Use this ProgramBelow are some recommendations for how best to use the DVD and trainingmaterials to help insure that your students will pass the exam.ReviewAfter you complete each section of the DVD, you may want to ask if there areany questions. That may also a good time to clarify and reinforce anyinformation or company-specific requirements that are important to you.Test and CertificatesAfter you complete the DVD, you can give the students the IPC TrainingCertification Test containing twenty multiple-choice questions. You may print asmany copies of the test as necessary. Directions regarding how to take the test,how to mark answers, change answers, etc. are all provided on the first page ofthe exam. Please review these directions with your students.1

An Answer Key is provided for grading the test. After you grade the tests, youmay wish to return them to each student so they can review any incorrectanswers.A full color IPC Training Certificate is included on the DVD-111C download page.This PDF certificate allows you to type in the names of all the students that passthe test, and print out individual certificates. Training Certificates can beprovided to students who obtain a passing grade of 70% (14 correct answers)or better on the final test.Automated TestingDVD-111C includes online testing to reduce paper usage, randomize questions,eliminate grading tests and automate certificate generation. IPC-hosted testingis free and requires no setup.Customizable assessment software is available for download, and may beinstalled on your server to run behind your company firewall.Details on both types of automated testing programs can be found at:www.ipctraining.org/ovt/testCEUsIn order to assign continuing education units to each student... measure the totaltraining time in reviewing DVD-111C, group discussion and testing. Each onehourincrement of training translates into 0.1 CEU.
